Also, Roach only agreed to 145 because he is now demanding a 70-30 purse and the fight to be scheduled before October. Using baseball as an excuse. Cotto has one helluva cut to heal and there is no reaonable way that skin will be fully healed by October. Pac is the best fighter and Roach is the best trainer right now but I'm tired of all his shenanigans trying to pull advantages and unfair moves. It sounds like Pac vs. Cotto. Wow, what a matchup! Until you factor in the catchweight and not allowing that vicious cut to heal properly. Anybody who has ever boxed for a significant time can clearly understand the disadvantages. Just like DLH and PBF, Pac and Roach are now picking and choosing opponents and conditions instead of just fighting the best out there as is. These guys are more business than boxing. This is what happens in boxing when your wallet outgrows your heart. If you want to defeat Cotto just to defeat him as a fighter thats fine. But if you want to be called welterweight champ then you need to beat a welterweight champ at welterweight. Even the bias Pac fan can not reasonably argue against that simple logic. If Pac and Roach think the welterweights are too big, hence the catchweight, then go after Judah, PBF, Campbell, Bradley, Valero, or JMM. Its obvious he wants none of Mosley. Mosley said he would take their catchweight and purse split yet they'd rather try to lure Cotto. Boxing is hurting itself with this kind of mess.
Now I was upset when I thought this catchweight fight would be for the WW titles, but its not. And I'm far from being a Pac fan. But no one was bitching about the Hopkins-Pavlik catchweight fight without any titles on the line right? It ain't for any titles, so stop your crying. Cotto came in at 146 for Clottey, he can make it 145.

Again did you bitch at other catchweight fights that wasn't for titles?

You must be reading too fast. I said if it is just for a fight then fine but if this is for the title then its bulls#@! Read slower next time. And many people are saying this would be Pac's 7th weight class title. Did you read the article when Roach said he doesn't care if Cotto is at 200lbs. but he wants a catchweight. The difference between this fight and every other catchweight is that he is not doing to meet up he is doing it to drain fighters who barely make their weight class. That is why Roach said he would not let Pac fight any welterweight at 147 except PBF. To all the people who choose not to accept the truth against their fanfair, if the 2 or 3 pounds is no factor then why is Pac's team the adamant ones? Why is 147 good for DLH and PBF but not Mosley or Cotto? Answer these questions factual without getting offended.

    Very well said.
As I see it, Roach is just throwing his weight around. I believe Cotto sees himself as the challenger ( he said it would be the greatest challenge of his career) in the same way Hatton saw himself as the challenger to the P4p throne.

Now, it may not be unfair that he is doing this seeing that Roach/Paquiao have earned the right to call the shots. If fighters want to fight Pac they have to fight him on his terms. That's why their the adamant ones.

I am not a boxing expert like most of you guys, but i think this is fairly simple to answer.

The bottomline is that they want the FIGHT-NIGHT weight to be fair.

It is no secret that Cotto can balloon to 158 pounds during fight night. Pacs highest fight-night weight is 148 pounds against ODLH. That is a 10-pound weight advantage! Is that fair?

By having a catchweight, they are hoping that Cotto can balloon to only 153 pounds during fight night. He would still be the bigger man but at least, the fight will be more fair.

Roach doesn't have any problem having catchweight with PBF cause PBF's fight night weight is only 150 pounds, which is close to Pac's fight-night weight of 148 pounds.

It seems to me that you are the one who likes to stack things against Pac by demanding unfair weight advantages.

And don't tell me that Cotto will be weight-drained by agreeing to 145 lbs. He came in at 146 lbs against Clottey. Jeesh. He needs to lose only 1 lb while climbs 15 lbs if we consider that he fought at 130 just a year ago like C-Lo said.

This is all about making a fair fight during FIGHT NIGHT.

Now, I would like to hear your response to this.

146 may have been calculated and his choice, this nonsence from Roach isn't the first time he's done it. People are bending over backwards to accomodate him and Manny. They're getting lured by the big payday and the chance to take the current p4p fighter off his spot. That's a big lure, whether it's your healthiest option gets forgotten.

It's about weight divisions. If your reasoning is correct lets just weigh people before they jump in the ring, just to be fair.

If Pac can't handle fighters at 147lbs then don't challenge them. IF they do fight Cottos title should not be on the line because it is not a welterweight fight it's something Roach created to suit his fighter.

I have heard it proposed in chatrooms that it be 147 lbs same-day weigh in. Would you agree to that?

IMHO, this is even more disadvantageous for Cotto. I have read other boxing writers also comment on this, and they also agreed that same day weigh in of 147 lbs is not good for Cotto.

I am sure Pac's team would prefer 147lb same-day weigh in versus 145lb the day before weigh-in.

Gatti was notorius for blowing up between weigh-ins and fight night. It can be an advantage if done safely, do it too quickly and it won't.

I'm sure they would like same day weigh-ins but if that was the case Cotto would be a least one division higher.

They switched from same day weigh-ins for safety reasons, the same as dropping from 15 rounds to 12 and increasing glove weight.

If you have boiled down in weight (& unless you're a heavyweight you'll have to cut) it takes time to rehydrate the body safely.

Roach may be looking after his fighter, on the otherhand it shows no regard for the safety of fellow boxers to ask them to cut weight below what they usually do.

Maybe Pac can move back down to 126?

So, what would be an agreeable same-day weigh-in WEIGHT for you THAT IS FAIR to both sides? I am curious. Consider that Pac would come in around 148 lbs whatever weigh-in you propose, and that Cotto would probably take the maximum limit.

Now don't tell me that a 10-lb weight advantage for Cotto is FAIR for you?! I would be surprised if you said that.

Obviously, there has to be compromises on both sides to make this mega-fight. Same thing in real life.

    Some people

The safety argument is a load of bollocks!

Fighters are not idiots! They know they have to lose the additional weight naturally to be functional. Cotto would have to be a fool to boil down the additional weight (ah... 2 pounds, even sounds stupid) the last days before the fight.
