Outside of philosophical differences between Palin and Obama, I really don't see much difference between her and the President as far as intangibles go. Considering that Sen. McCain was not tremendously popular in his own party and still pulled 47% of the popular vote, the Republicans simply need a candidate that galvanizes the party and can win 25-30% of the swing vote. I have strong reservations whether Palin is such a candidate but she brings a "star" quality similar to the Presidents that can't be learned. You either have it or don't. It is very early to speculate and I hope the President turns this train wreck around but with an economy that is stagnant at best and a sub par foriegn policy (only my opinion obviously) Obama is leaving the door open for a distinct possibility of being a one term president.

Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin, Haley Barbour, these people have no chance of beating Obama unless something drastic happens. I would go so far as to say the Republicans have no chance whatsover but everybody I guess technically has a chance. Nominate Romney and pray but the chances of the Republicans winning in 2012 are slim.

The "she gets picked on by the liberal media because she's conservative" line is ridiculous, every time she opens her mouth she comes off looking like a buffoon. Its not a conspiracy.

I really do hope she's the nominee though. Obama-Palin will come close to Reagan-Mondale as far as landslides go. Obama versus Jindal would be a cakewalk but not quite as much so although it would be interesting for Jindal's creepy factor. Haley Barbour

Considering that the current administration is losing much of its far left support and all together proving it doesn't have the right answers for the obstacles our country faces I am suprised in your confidence. If Obama turns things around economically, which I doubt, he will be a tough adversary for any republican. I personally am disgusted by just about every possible presidential candidate for 2012

And vice versa, I am shocked by anybody who is confident of anything good happening to Republicans, whose "brand" has been shot to shit, and who appear to be parading out a hilariously weak set of candidates for 2012 to run up against a popular president. It screams landslide.

I wouldn't be so sure that the far left will follow in lock step. I made the same assumption about the far right and McCain and a lot of them simply stayed at home on election day b/c he didn't motivate them.

Ouma, Obama hasn't provided a viable solution to any of our major domestic issues. It is still early and he may get some things going but at the moment his policies are speculative or have funding issues. Whether he got a shitty draw or not on the economy is irrelevant. I don't know anyone who feels better about the economy. It is his problem now and if he can't provide a dramatic turn around he will be blamed for it.

I don't contest that the Republicans haven't provided a "sure thing" but I think the last election proved that it can easily be the guy you've never heard of. First and foremost the party needs to show the country it is back to its conservative ideals, mainly small government and less spending. The party needs to seperate it self from the way the Bush admin completely veered from traditional conservative policy. If it can do this and the current administration doesn't start providing real viable solutions then I don't think it will need a rock star to defeat Obama.

You do have a point. She was a very bright star when she was first brought onto the national stage. But I'd say that star faded for many of her original supporters once they got to know her better.

Then appearance by appearance they'll gradually mould her slightly differently and gradually educate her on the issues and how to deal with them, turn her into somebody who appears to have a grasp of the fundamentals and then she'll run in 2016. Or she'll be completely untrainable and she'll gradually fade away.

I was thinking that last night.Joining a network,namely Fox.I dont think that she is the sharpest knife in the drawer but is effective on camera in small doses and does ok when rehearsed with an audience.A talk show?

As far as a national stage and politics.I think she is finished.She let the marketing and packaging get in front of her substance and was force fed to the public.If the heat in Alaska was too much...she melts on a national stage again.I think she's a trivia question or a punchline now.
