After the Pacquiao - Hatton fight, people (and I mean almost everyone) was talking about it on a hockey forum I sometimes post on. That's how popular he is.

Edit: At worst, Pacquiao stimulates discussion amongst hardcore fans (ohhhhhhh, how terrible) and at best he draws in new fans to the sport and increases the profile of boxing in the mainstream sports world.
Pacman is only known to the boxing world and maybe just maybe to some of the casual sports fan. Most people don't know who he is outside of those 2 demographics. He's not oscar De la hoya in terms of widespread appeal or a young 80s Tyson that people knew.

Pacman f-ucked over his mainstream popularity by bailing out on shows like the Tonight Show, Regis - Kelly, Good Morning America, etc. And he almost bailed out on the Boxing Writers Association of America for presenting him fighter of the year. The guy wants money like how he wanted it to be 60-40 in contract talks with Hatton, but sure doesn't understand how to market himself to an wider audience. More exposure=more cash, which is good for him and boxing.

It's only the boxing fans and fans of other combat sports that knows who he is. Most fans of other sports are saying who? The general publics sure doesn't know who he is.

So basically my question is this. If Manny Pacquiao is hardly known outside of the boxing world and he greatly divides the boxing fans, is he good for boxing?
if pac is'nt known outside those 2 demographics, why don't you make a placard and ask the people on the streets and ask: is pacquiao popular or not? that way, your question will be directly answered on that demographic! most likely they would say no just to make you look like a jackass for their entertainment or say "yes, what the fuck are you thinking? are you stupid?" which makes you think now it would'nt be a good idea to do that placard thing!

but to say pac is'nt known outside the boxing world is like saying is there a team called charlotte bobcats in the nba? really? since when?

if pac isn't known outside that area, why would nike made him an endorser? why would yahoo put the news pac upsets de la hoya as one of their headlines? that alone reaches out to millions! so his popularity right now had just increased!

why would such celebrities go to the wildcard to see him practice? like marky mark and his friend christian bale, stallone, the guy roach trained who has a wrestling movie? so is the boston celtics ,carmelo, kobe, kanye, etc etc...

i don't know why you're making up threads to downgrade pac as if he's bad to the sport! did'nt you made up a thread that pac's accomplishments is'nt that great? yet he's a former flyweight who went up to face the most prominent!

this is a stupid thread really. coz if the general public doe'snt know or care about pac: it's their loss not mine, not yours and not everybody in the boxing community!
