I love stock car racing as well. I personally attend at least one race per week. Many times 2 races a week and if I am home more than that. mostly dirt races but some asphalt too. This week I am going to two "topless" late model races, pretty cool that! Last week my brother went to 4 races in a row in three different states (but they only raced at two of them).
I attend at least a Winston Cup (Nextel now) and a truck race a year......but in the last year or so it has seemed comepletely stupid to me. It is just like a tabloid sport....like UFC or Yahoo news or some other meritless supposedly attention grabbing bullshit. They interview people and make a big deal about a little bumping between a couple wimps with supermodel wives and gel in their hair. Sorry, but that doesn't really interest me.
Went to Michigan in June for NASCAR and Truck and witnessed the lamest racing I have ever seen. By the same token I saw a $10,000 to win late model show in Quincy Illinois for $20 entry and can safely say there was more action there than in an entire NASCAR schedule. I am talking real action: not fuel milage racing, not rain delays wins, not dragging a fuckking broadcast out 8 goddamn hours to see someone win. When a caution waved, it wasn't for "phanton debris" so Jr. wouldn't go down a lap....it was because a late model was on its lid.
The more bullshit question is why do they have drug testing to begin with? I would much rather be out there with a high as fuck Jeremy Mayfield than a sober Jon Woods/Paul Menard/Scott Speed/Buckshot Jones. Mayfield is a top driver and I hope he gets through this. I would have said fukk Nascar long ago though.
