    Default Re: Tragedies in Boxing

I think that the tragic suicide of Randy Turpin is one of the most terrible stories in boxing. A man with with his demons, it's a shame people allowed things to get to that breaking point.

I also remember reading about old-timer Young Stribling got into a motorcycle accident, and while laying beside his wrecked motorcycle with one foot dangling from a tendon, he says, "I guess this means no more roadwork". This was long before Chico's sad accident.

Marciano died in a plane crash back in 69. Willy Pep was also in a plane crash and survived although affected by the accident.

By the way, in recent memory does anyone recall Agapito Sanchez? I remember him fighting JMM. I heard that an off duty cop was harassing his wife, so he stood up to him and the cop shot him. They never found the guy that did it.

There are countless tragedies befalling fighters both inside and outside of the ring, often ending the promising careers of would-be champions.

If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
