I've been told that it is also a good idea to be aware of where the judges are seated and then make sure that you position yourself so that the majority of the judges see your punches landing clean. This is based on the funny thing about amateur scoring in that the judges press a button for either the "blue" or "red" fighter according to the number of clean punches that they see, and later the computer tallies up the punches.
Anyways the punch you don't want to leave without is the jab. It's the punch that the judges zero in on first, and look at before any other punch. It's a low risk punch for the most part, and is something that you should be constantly trying to improve.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
