I'll be stunned if Campbell lands a payday after this.
In all fairness, and I don't like Nate that much, if he was really "seeing spots" it could possibly have been something internal. Not saying that happened, just saying I don't think there's an eye doctor on this thread and its not like its not totally out of the realm of possibility.
He did seem clearly affected by it in the round.
Or he could have read the signs and gotten the fuck out of there, I don't know. I'm willing to give a guy who's been a real fighter for a long time some benefit of the doubt. Dude has always shown toughness, Nate Campbell and the word pussy shouldn't really be used together.
To be fair though, the guy has bitched since the Diaz fight that everyone is ducking him, he doesn't get the big paydays he deserves and has claimed on many occasion that he has more heart than most fighters. You can't come out mouthing off to the media and then look for a way out when the cards are stacked. Like I said earlier, Cotto had a monster cut against Clottey and could have bitched out, but he continued on. Nate claims he's a real warrior, but real warriors don't do what he did in the ring tonight. He should've let the referee or the doctor decide.
My only two points are, one, we don't really know what was happening with him, and, two, he's shown heart and toughness over a long career. That is enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt even though he acted questionably.
I shouldn't be defending him this much, I'm a huge fan of Juan Diaz.
All I'm saying is...
Nate has moaned and moaned. He's claimed he's a warrior. He's claimed he has alot of heart and is tough. But tonight, on his chance to show that, he didn't. When you failed to make the weight in your last fight, this isn't the way to endear yourself to TV companies and promotors alike. You want to get paid, you have to demonstrate your worth the trouble.
Well I don't care too much about talk, but he had every right to claim he had heart and is tough, he's had heart and been tough for over ten years or somethingNot like this guy's been a runner or been quitting every other fight or any fight, the man has a track record, period.
Maybe he just quit, maybe he wasn't "seeing spots." or his vision wasn't impaired, I don't know. If it was Hector Camacho Jr. I wouldn't be saying anything, I'd still be laughing. But it wasn't.
This sux.I think Nate is a warrior, come on hes payed his dues. in a crazy way might be seeing a 37 yr old fighter who has had some shite circumstances caught up in quick realization...and I dont mean in a yellow streek manner but seeing it all come to an end one final time. This fight has me very Cybil.
Well, personally I think this cut was worse than Cotto's, as it was right on the eyelid & more central (as in nearer his nose). Ignoring that Cotto also had a major point to prove to everyone after he quit against Margarito. He knew better than anyone that had he found a way out early against Clottey that it could be used to support Margarito's 'innocence' & that he would forever be known as a fighter who lacked heart. Campbell has done more than enough over his career to show that he is a real warrior. & if you listen to the corner he does try & let the doctor decide, when asked if he wants to carry on, he says yes.
Didn't Nate have something to prove after failing to make weight last time? He was critical of Guzman for not making weight, then didn't himself. Next after all the talk he looked for the easy way out. He comes across very hypocritical. I've had alot of respect for Nate in the past but I lost a fair bit tonight. I just think if he'd gone out on his shield, he'd put himself in a better position with the fans, Showtime & other fighters. This way he's left himself with few options. You know that if the boot was on the other foot and it'd been Bradley who backed out, Nate would be bad mouthing him to anyone who'd listen.
I don't agree with that. After failing to make the weight he apologized to Funeka & the fans & admitted it was unprofessional. He also didn't criticize Guzman for not making weight, he criticized him after Guzman chose not to fight at the weights they were at (ie Guzman slightly above the Light-Welter limit).
The idea that him going out on his shield makes him more attractive for decent money fights is an odd one. The fact is with the way the boxing business is now, a defeat to Bradley would have left him out in the cold (I do think he would have lost the fight btw, I'm not claiming that it was his). How interested is anyone in seeing Kendall Holt fight again after losing to Bradley & he dropped him twice.
I think one thing you can say about Campbell is that he's honest. If Bradley had gone with the same thing, I don't think Campbell would have bad-mouthed him at all, although doubtless those corrupt shits Shaw & King would have swapped viewpoints.
