Tech will never win a NC under Paul Johnson. Guaranteed. Like a 0.0 percent chance.
He's a good coach though but they'll never be able to recruit the top athletes with that offense.

God I hate Tennessee.
Much more than Auburn.
UCLA fucking around and making them look good.
Tennessee is spectacularly bad!
Horrible. Ahahahahahaha.
Tied 10-10 versus the University of California at Los Angeles.![]()
Jonathan Crompton just threw his worst interception of the day, even worse than the first one.
Fucking hell we are going to massacre these inbreds.
...remember another school that ran the option? NEBRASKA, they didn't have much trouble recruiting and not that it's the end all be all, but Option Offenses keep their players for 4 years whereas schools with more "Pro" style offenses can lose players early.
Option QB's aren't really the same as spread QB's so GATech will get the BEST option QB's easily. Another great thing with the way Johnson runs the option is that the dive back/fullback isn't really a fullback, look at "The Other" Adrian Peterson, look at Dwyer he's just a bigger running back, he's no fullback and that means the dive play is more dangerous than usual because the dive back has the speed and the agility to break it at any time.
Don't sleep on them, this is only the 2nd year they have run the option at Tech...soon it'll be what it was at Georgia Southern where that offense was called the "Touchdown a minute Offense"...what worries me is the defense, they have to have a good defense in order for the offense to work correctly.
ECU lost, apparently they had an awful game especially Pinkney who was something like 16-40 in passing.
Nebraska was a different time, things have changed a bit. Anyway we could go on and on but I will guarantee they won't win one. If they do I'll send you a dollar or something.
....when you can turn Navy back into a big bowl WINNER like Johnson did playing no easier a schedule than Tech plays now, then you've got something. Johnson can recruit and he'll get better recruits for his team because of the style of his offense and not inspite of it.
We can do some kind of bet, it's funny I already have a bet with a friend of mine and he keeps adding on years for me thinking Tech will never win a Championship. The bet is a steak dinner and each time we discuss it I tell him "Medium Rare" because the way Tech will do it is SEC and Big 12 teams beat each other up and a Big 10 team squeaks by with an unblemished record and Tech wins out in the ACC and then the speed and power of Tech will demolish OSU, Penn State, Michigan....Johnson is already quite accomplished at beating Jim Tressle

I think an option based team can still be a NC contender. The key is to be a completelty run based offense you need a tremendous defense. As great as Nebraska's option was, the blackshirt defense was always one of the best in the nation.
Most bad government has grown out of too much government. Thomas Jefferson
I'm gonna bump this thread after every national championship game for years
Not gonna happenSorry.
When the option is run correctly nothing can stop it
That's pretty tough guys. The depth of the ACC is horrible but improving with NC, Miami and FSU bouncing back last year but it's going to take more then 2 years for any team from the ACC to get back into the title picture. I'm not sure that's realistic. Recruiting to Navy and recruiting to Georgia Tech are two different things entirely.
Plus OumaFan is right, top recruits especially the ones you need like linemen and recievers aren't going to want to run in an option offense. They are going to want to run in pro style offenses on the bigger stage in the SEC.
Linebackers and defensive ends on the elite level are way to fast to get burned on the option. The wildcat like the one they ran in West Virginia is the new option.
Maybe if it's 1994 or maybe if you are playing a Big 10/12 defense everyweek but not in the SEC and not in the Pac 10. With the speed that that part of the country has you can recruit to stop the option really quickly. There is a reason noone has been able to sustain the option for multiple years w/ multiple classes for the past 10 years, the game has evolved past it.
Yeah Navy can make it work for them like Hawaii did the huck and chuck but top recruits who are thinking NFL from their sophmore year of high school aren't going to want to play in a gimmick offense. Have you ever seen a national contending team throw 60 times a game like Hawaii did? It's been a looong time for the option.
