Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....
boxingbournemouth - Cornelius Carrs private boxing tuition and personal fitness training
I started therapy in June and My doctor said I could just drop out of it in July and work my shoulders at home. BUT I didn't work my shoulders just until recently.
I remember it well, It was quite a few years ago, but after the surgery I had my arm strapped to my side for six weeks. After that, the shoulder was so weak, I could barely lift my arm to pick my nose. Physio was not easy, It took a lot of work to get the proper range of movement back.
Yea I remember being not be able to lift my arm to itch an itch I had. I remember though when I had my sling my dad was arguing with my mom and I didn't have my sling on when it happened and I lifted my arm and punched himm and my arm popped so loud, but it didn't dislocate. Which looks like the surgery did its job.
And the therapy is a pain, I had to use the rubber bands to get my flexibility back. And when you come from a low to middle class familly it gets hard to pay the therapy bill, I went ab out 20 times and the bill with inairance. Included was over 200 bucks. So I decided to train at home like my doctor told me too.
How can I train my shoulders I mean strngthen themm with dumbbells and a bar?
Well, I'm not really an athlete, but as I recall, there was no special, out of the ordinary exercises. Just make sure you have a balanced routine, so that there are no muscles that get neglected. It's not just strength, it is range of movement that you need to work on. Anyways, that's something you want qualified advice on IMO.
I never did get 100% range back, but I came close enough that it wasn't a problem. One thing I can't do is lie flat on my back with my hands folded behind my head, and touch the floor with the elbow of the arm that was fixed. I come really close, but not quite as far as the other arm. Perhaps if I really worked it I might have, but I'm a lazy S.O.B.
good luck.
I got the same problem. I can't do that either and I'm scared to lay like that incase one of your friends push your arms down. Holy shit would that ever hurt.
But strengthening the muscles around the joints. I really don't know what work outs I would have to do, to work them muscles.
Any clues?
Bro Jereme I feel your fustration.. Wow its amazing i thought i would never come across anyone with the same issues about my shoulders. I love boxing, ever since I was about 10 I was always boxing never amateur/pro but I always had that spark of interest but could never take the full approach due to my shoulders. as of now It has also kept me from training. It is very hard knowing that i cant do something that i love, i dont do any other sports and the one I love i cant participate. Anyway I know exactly how you feeling about the repeated dislocations. I had surgery on my right should in 07 and I did therapy for maybe two months then went on a vacation and fell off track and just like how you did tried to get back and strengthen the shoulder. About a year later I thought my shoulder was well healed and ready for boxing but then with a couple of exchanges pop came right out. I was devastated. I couldnt believe worked so hard, time, patience and it was all for nothing. I have loose ligaments in both shoulders which makes it extremely hard to continue boxing even though i still do go to the boxing gym and workout My left shoulder had also been stretched never dislocated like my right and after a while the shoulder just gives out I cant even move it it just fatigues I think i will need surgery on my left too. My advice is that you see that therapist and do ALL you can to prevent that shoulder from coming out, its your best bet buddy. Focus strictly on ROTATOR CUFF EXERCISES. surrounding shoulder muscle conditioning and balance along with core exercises and back exercises, everything you can to get the ligaments strong as ever. Hopefully in the future this will not stop us because i know one day soon enough I am going to be able to take this boxing to another level. Keep at it let me know how it comes along. peace.
Sorry, I didn't notice your reply. Anyways, with regards to touching the floor with your elbows, IMO when you are rehabbing, there are some exercises you can't really do by yourself, that's where a good physio comes in. Or at least a helper who has some idea of what to do. Have a friend go to a physio session with you to get some idea how to help.
As for hints on specific exercises, nah I can't really say. But it shouldn't be too hard to find out.
