    ....let's go Marquez!

Floyd had every opportunity to be America's Sweetheart like Ray Leonard, RJJ, Oscar, and Shane Mosley before him but he took the low road and wanted to wear the black hat and now he's apparently disappointed because he's unable to shake that off of his image.

I have no idea why he would lash out at Manny Steward though that's completely irrational.

Hey Floyd, Kanye West called, he wants his act back. Nobody can doubt Floyd's talent but on the same token no one can doubt that he's a world class prick either

Talented as he no doubt is, the one thing 'money mayweather' cant buy is class. Its idiotic comments like that , that keep the small embers of racism burning. Id go as far to say that outside of the U.S., most kids wouldnt have heard of an uncle tom, certainly not here in ireland. Mr Mayweather has single handedly introduced a new phrase to kids who have maybe just taken an interest in boxing. Congrats Floyd. Also R.I.P. Darren Sutherland

The first and foremost reason why he's not a superstar that transcends all sports is because he's a complete cnut!!

That said does he have a point about he'd be bigger if he was white?

I genuinely (perhaps naively) think it makes no difference to us in the UK, dare I say it but a I feel we're a little more liberal than the US??!!

Stateside though race seems more of an issue. Do any of our US posters feel that should PBF have been white he would've been more of a household name?

    Yes, maybe more so

Also if Floyd thinks he'd have it easy as a white guy, people would be MORE on his ass about not fighting the talent in/around his weight class. Rocky Marciano comes to mind, never ducked anyone and never lost to anyone yet catches crap about never fighting anyone.....if PBF was white people MAY come to my side of the fence and ask why didn't he unify? Why not fight the BEST out there? Why duck so many people?

Seems like the new and improved, "classier" Mayweather is just a figment of the imagination.

    Yes
he would have. Guys like SRL, TIger woods, they are examples of white americas "model minority", floyd's a braggart that is influenced by hip hop culture the negative side of it. And even those model minorities are considered threats if they raise their voice too loudly.

Black men have been and will always be public enemy number 1 in the states. So floyd does have a very valid point, the fact that he's a cunt is only the easy way out.

HBO: Boxing: PPV: Mayweather vs. Marquez: FIGHT WEEK BLOG: MAYWEATHER LOOKS TO BE SHARP AS EVER AFTER 21-MONTH LAYOFF

Sad he would say that, I know Steward can be biased at times but he had some good words for Floyd in this article

Floyd is a cocksucker....he's got it better than anyone in boxing (maybe bar Pacquiao) and he's got to be a prick about EVERYTHING.

There's going to be a new term named for Floyd once he gets beaten, heard of Schadenfreude? (Taking pleasure in someone else's pain/sorrow/misery/misfortune) well when Floyd loses to Marquez I think a lot of people will suffer from SchadenFLOYD, taking pleasure from Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s misfortune.

I don't believe that! I think it's about his persona. I coming up blank about a white guy with Mayweather's persona.

Look at Ray Leonard and the like.... and also look at Obama. If the Character is there for people to like people they will like them. On the other side look at Look guys like (here's one) Brett Favre or Dennis Rodman, If the Character is there for people to hate, they will hate them.

Now, I do agree there is always going to be prejudice due to race, I think its only a contributing factor and the the primary reason.

He is always begging for attention and that just gets old fast!
