Well, I am surprised. I don't quite get why that many people would splash out to watch a WW take on LW. I'm surprised more didn't cancel their subscription after the weigh in debacle too. It's not a good sign that people will watch in their droves to see Mayweather fight a hand picked opponent. We might never see the last of this type of behaviour.
Man, you are so bitter recently - The fact that he is now the 4th biggest draw ever is good for boxing right now. I don't see any other stars at the moment, do you?
I was the first one to shake my head when I heard that he weighed in 4lbs more than Marquez but you're actually saying people SHOULDN'T have tuned in and that "it's not a good sign"??
Listen to yourself! A lot of these buyers were probably casual fans so how the hell is it not a good sign that we are bringing more casual fans to the sport of boxing??
More fans to boxing = "not a good sign"?...ok then![]()
Big deal. Titanics the highest grossing film of all time but it still pussy. Damn son, guess I'm just a hater.

Nooo!!! Not the miles has turned bitter thing again!
I agree that it's a good thing that boxing has an audience, but I also think that if that audience is forking out nigh on 50 dollars to watch a fight then it should be Mayweather taking on a serious challenge and against an opponent who can actually compete at his weight. I felt that the Mayweather/Marquez fight was a bit of a con all in all. Boxing can make better matchups than that and a paying public deserves better than that too.
It seems that the sportstars who find the most commercial success do so by conning the general public into thinking that they are critically acclaimed by all of their peers. Mayweather reminds me of David Beckham. Ask the average person what they think. "Man he's the greatest of all time!" What makes you think that? "Number One Numero Uno baby! Man everyone knows it! Who else do you hear about!" Then you ask someone in the game. We've all witnessed the eternal debate right here. The whole Pound for Pound #1 and Undefeated shit has cheated the public into thinking that they are parting ways with their money to see the best of boxing. Is it bad that they bought the fight and boxing recieved attention? No. But will they ever watch Marquez fight again? Why bother watching Pacquiao if Marquez got beaten so badly by Mayweather? Pacquiao can't be that good. What? Cotto lost a fight? Mosley? Man Floyds dad or uncle or some shit said he's a roid muncher! Fuck that! I'll just wait for the next time Mayweather fights!

LOL you guys do sound really bitter; Mayweather is far from the most entertaining fighter out there but his matches are not that boring! the MArquez fight wasn't really boring just one sided! The DelaHoya and Baldomir fights they were boring!
Yeah man. Mayweather is far from a boring fighter at 140 and lower, but you're absolutely right about the De la Hoya and Baldomir fights. Those were real snooze fests. These two fights made me not want to ever buy a Mayweather PPV again.
I watched Mayweather/Marquez on the internet. He won is an impression fashion so I decided that I'll pay for his next ppv bout if the opponent is a worthy one.
Fair enough Miles.
I understand your point but as long as the general public enjoyed it (and I think they did), that is the main thing because they won't feel conned.
I see why you feel conned but again, you're thinking as a hardcore fan.
My girlfriend stayed up to watch the fight with me and even though it wasn't the most action packed fight, she thought it was great. Due to Floyd's speed, agility and dominance etc.
She doesn't really know the first thing about boxing and I imagine if she enjoyed it, then a whole heap of other casual fans did as well.
How condescending can you be!?
Believe it or not, some of us are fight fans not 'viewer-counters' like you!!
Who the fu*k cares about how many people watched a fight if it was a dreadful fight!!
These 'casual' (as you refer to them) viewers would have watched PBFvJMM and proclaim that PBF is a much better fighter! Do they have a clue about the machinations that went on beforehand? Do they fook!!!

I cannot see how in any way that answers his question. As long as BOTH Pacquiao & Mayweather bring new fans for boxing it cannot be a bad thing.
I think one mass assumption that people make is that 'casual' fans want to see people getting KO'd which isn't necessarily the case. All but 2 of the 12 people who came to mine last week to watch the fight were the definition of casual fans, some of who had never seen the fight. ALL of them came away excited by it, mainly Mayweather's skill & athletic ability (& with the women, mainly Mayweather).

I kinda agree with Althugs. Anyone who is wishing , hoping, suggesting less fans show up is pretty negative and should ask themselves why that is. Dont let your dislike for one fighter overtake your love for the sport. It kinda makes me sad to hear anyone say that on this board. It is negative and simply hating. Like the person or not, harping on what is good news for boxing is just, meh, sad..

I am not dissing Mayweather (though my dislike for him is quite notorious, I gotta admit), I was simply answering the part where he says that he doesn't see any other boxing star at the moment dragging such a big crowd. Sure, it is good for boxing, if even the boxer I strongly dislikes can drag new amateurs it is damn good, new blood to share the love of the sport with and new people to disagree and agree with, I just found that he was going a bit far saying that no other stars at the moment can bring such big ppv on the table, that is all. Thus said, sorry if my post was confusing or something, my sole intention was to underline that Floyd wasn't the biggest drag in at the gate at the moment.
