Ricky Hatton was beaten before he even left his dressingroom. His only chance was to KO Mayweather even then the outcome would have been a DQ of some kind.
Fight in Vegas Floyds hometown . Ref Joe Cortez & three blind mice (judges) ALL from Vegas. What chance did Hatton stand?? Cortez made sure that Hatton would not be allowed to fight while allowing Mayweather carte blanche to hold, forearm smash & duck below the waist continuously. Not a fight on the level at all

Poor ricky, a guy whos use to fighting at home with a UK ref and UK judges and use to ruffing his opponents up on the inside with headbutts, elbows and low blows fought a guy who was fighting at home with an american ref and judges and gave him a bit of his own taste at in-fighting. Can ya really complain about it when the guy has done a fair bit of that himself?

But nobody was asking for hatton to have preferential treatment. Just a fair fight that wasnt broken up the second it appeared ricky was going to work on the inside.

As ive clearly stated all through this thread, the fact we have ny on 100posts 2 years after the event shows there is still huge controversy surrounding this fight.

For all those that do believe this situation is dumbfounded as floyds superior speed would be too much for hatton may i please just ask you again to rewatch the 1st 5rounds up until the deduction so you can see how badly floyd was coping with rickys constant pressure

Correct me if im wrong but if i remember clear enough, floyd was actually beating hatton on the inside. Tying him up before he had a chance to do much at all. He got outboxed in every way. I never thought floyd looked like losing, hatton was lunging in alot and getting caught left right and centre. It was only a matter of time until the right punch connected.

floyd was bossing most of the exchanges largely due to that lightening quick straight right that caught hatton out every time they were within reach of eachother. But hattons gameplan was simple. Tie floyd up on the inside and use your superior power to get your punches off.

Worked a treat against tszyu and castillo but he just simply wasnt allowed to do this and stopped on every occasion. If you dont believe that could you please point out to me a single occasion in the entire fight where the tie-ups between the 2 lasted more than lets say 1 and a half seconds before cortez was jumping straight in

    Hatton still would have lost......duh

Mayweather has just about the best defense in the game and Hatton would have been lucky to hit him inside, much less hurt him, assuming Mayweather would have sat there and even played that game. I didn't like how Cortez played that night, but Hatton would have got ktfo even quicker had there not been so much hand holding from Cortez; Floyd adapts so quickly to what a fighter does and then starts picking them apart. Hatton just does the same things over and over and it wouldn't take a genius to figure him out; and Floyd is a genius in the ring. People seem to think Floyd was scared of Ricky's inside game and was thankful for Cortez' busy body interferring, but had there not been any interference imo Floyd would have gotten him out quicker; though it could have been a more exciting fight to watch.
    Here's a better question:

If Ricky hadn't of been KTFO in the 2nd round by Pacman, would he have been KTFO in the 3rd?

Its boxing not wrestling u obsessed man. It is the referees job to break up fighters when they clinch. You are pretty much saying Cortez refereed badly because he did not allow Hatton to do something that is illegal in boxing. If Ricky's inside game was so godd he should have been able to get shots off without holding.

Ive been trying to say this but i just dont think ive been saying it right Clinching is illegal and technically holding and hitting is illegal. So cortez is apparently a bad ref for stopping something illegal

I think if Cortez didn't get involved Hatton would have been knocked out earlier.
