On his day he was one of the best heavies in the world, you've got to wonder how good he could have been if he'd managed to stay focused on his boxing career and come in to bouts at his fighting weight each time.

Still, he'll always be the man who beat Tyson, and has been involved in more than his fair share of drama.

Gotta say I never rated Williams, always thought he was British, not even European level. Had stacks of heart (as Saddo said regarding the Potter fight) but apart from the Tyson fight he ALWAYS failed on the big stage. I really like Danny, but he should've retired after the Vitali fight becuase since then it has been a disgrace seeing him get prime time slots on Saturday night when he has clearly been shot to pieces and going through the motions for a pay day

Top fella nonetheless - enjoy your retirement Danny

A real character and he took a hell of a lot of heart into the ring!

Could of done much better too, but wasn't quite focused enough to capitalise on all of his talent.

Hope Danny has a good retierment and has put some of his hard erned mony in the bank.

Spoke to him for 5 minutets after he beat Scott Gammer and he was a very nice person and made sure all the fans had pictures and autographs before he went.

    Top man,thanks for the memorys.

I'll never forget watching the Tyson fight. I felt like the only one bothering as everyone thought it was going to be a masacre.

How he came back from that first round I dont know, Tyson nailed him right on the button but he didnt go over, classic.

    Enjoy your retirement Danny.

Looking back on it had it of been an early pre prison tyson or post prison tyson, williams wouldnt of had a hope in the world of escaping through that 1st round as tyson would of just hammered into submission.

But it was a shot fighter who hadnt put much training in and didnt really take williams seriously up until he caught one right on the chin.

Was a great victory for williams at the time but it well and truly showed just how far tyson had sunk

No doubt about that mate but the punch he managed to stay upright from was amazing.

The level that Tyson came down to made it a classic tearup for a while.

Tyson was past his best but Williams was only picked to get quickly slaughtered. I loved it when he started unleashing his own bombs. Proper jump out the seat stuff.

I cheered for Danny in every fight he ever had. Very likeable guy, and good entertaining (most of the time) fighter to boot.

His career for the most part was entertaining and unpredictable. You never knew which Danny Williams would turn up both physically and mentally.

His career had highs and lows and he fought some quality opposition. The man had alot of heart as his shoulder injury against Potter proved - Danny kept fighting on and won. (Vitali Klitschko quit with a lesser injury against Chris Byrd)

Danny had a very good skills base and showed it more early on in his career but later relied on power.

When he lost to Sinan Samil Sam in 2003 I thought he was done then - but it was just another erratic night for Williams. His next fight against Aussie Bob Mirovic summed him up - he let Mirovic beat up on him for 3 rounds and then in the 4th came to life and with fast hands took the big Aussie journeyman out. He fell asleep a few times against Michael Sprott to sleepwalk to points loses against an inferior opponent.
He took an ass whooping from Vitali Klitschko similar to the one he suffered against Sam.

Even in his twighlight he had a mini European tour and taught lessons to prospects Platov and Airich - both very good fights.

Wins over Audley Harrison, Matt Skelton, Kali Meehan and the shot Mike Tyson are the biggest wins in his career. But intruth if the man had the mindset to be more dedicated then he could have done alot more - he seemed his own worse enemy at times admitting that he never knew "Which Danny Williams will turn up"

Now the punch resistance has finally deserted him - though we have thought that in the past.

Thanks for the memories 'Danny Boy' and good luck in your retirement.

I dont rate Harrison but if a fraud knocked him out what does that make Williams

When he fought Tyson, was Mike anywhere near world rranked?

    No, not at all

That is the only fight that williams will be remembered for same as Leotis Martin for his fight with Liston

Williams was never good enough to be a world contender, he was just about British level, being beaten by Harrison, Sprott, Skelton and Francis prove that, then you have his batterings by Samil Sam and Klitschko.

His last 2 losses were poor.
