Default My Cotto - Clottey scorecard

    R1 10-8 Cotto
    R2 10-9 Clottey
    R3 10-9 Cotto
    R4 10-9 Cotto
    R5 10-9 Clottey
    R6 10-9 Cotto
    R7 10-9 Clottey
    R8 10-9 Clottey
    R9 10-9 Clottey
    R10 10-9 Clottey
    R11 10-9 Cotto
    R12 10-9 Cotto

    114-113 Cotto.

This was a very competitive close fight that was a pleasure to watch.

Cotto clearly won rounds 1,6 and 12. Cotto only won round 1 because of the knockdown, i personally thought that if there was no knockdown, Clottey would of won it but because there was one Cotto gets awarded a 10-8 round. Round 6 was a totally one sided Cotto round where Clottey layed in the corner for 2 minutes of the round and let Cotto tee off on him. In round 12, Cotto simply outhustled and outworked Clottey.

Clottey clearly won rounds 5,7,8 and 9. In those rounds he pressured Cotto, put combos together regularly behind his jab and couldn't miss with his right hand because of Cotto's badly cut eye that occurred after a accidental headbutt in round 3.

Rounds 2,3,4,10 and 11 were evenly contested rounds with Clottey landing the better percentage of punches but Cotto throwing more punches.

One thing that i know from watching this fight is:

Clottey is definitely a elite fighter at 147.

He has awesome defense, good handspeed, solid body puncher, a underated stiff jab, a solid sneaky right hand. He is also very good at putting combos together especially with his left hand.

Who do you think won the fight ?

I believe I had Clottey up 114-113 (7 rounds to 5 minus one for the knockdown). I can't find my scorecard though.

A very competitive fight and I have no problem with Cotto getting the nod.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I remember thinking Clottey had just edged it but I didn't score it round by round. I'll rewatch it soon and do a rbr score.

I remember it seemed Clottey let him of the hook, but maybe it was just Cotto digging down. I think the last two rounds won it for Cotto

I thought Cotto edged it on first viewing, Clottey on the second. But both times I came away thinking WTF is this dude's problem, take it, its there. But its like he refused to dominate that fight.

I had 114-113 Cotto both times I watched it. I still think think it was Clottey's fight for the taking but for whatever reasons while he did pressure in late rounds he threw too little leather.

I wouldn't have had a problem with either guy winning because it was very close. I'd like to see Clottely get a rematch - probably won't happen though.

I thought Clottey won it, 114-113 I think, have no real problem with Cotto getting it although a scorecard of 116-111 was as bad as some of Malignaggi stuff to me.

Rounds ten through twelve were the pivotal rounds. If you watch them again, you will see that Clottey had difficulty connecting on Cotto. Cotto fights pretty well going backwards (see Shane Mosley). It's just that he should stay off the ropes as much as possible. Against Margarito, he was just exhausted. But against Mosley and Clottey, not as much. Round six was a great round for Cotto. 10-8 perhaps?

Come on mate asking you to judge a Cotto fight is like asking his Dad to do it.

Cotto won.....no one from ghana has never lost a fight if you ask them after. If he fought during the fight as hard as he did after trying to convince everyone after he might have pulled it off.
