Price wise for the quality you have for, this is extremely good, plus you can pick up any pieces you want to have inside therefore you pay for what you need. They are cheaper in general than Asus, Alienware (Obviously and though now Alienware belongs to Dell) and you have a very correct guarantee coming with it. Other companies like Sony are making excellent computers too and maybe a bit nicer but you,ll pay more for what you will have.

Here just for fun, I did build you a 15' screen VERY correct for your needs (I took a 15' as it's even cheaper than a 14' screen for 679 cdn bucks:

    500 sata HD
    15' inch HD screen
enhanced battery for lifetime (you should be good for over 4 hours with it on a 15' as I do almost 4 on my 17
    4 GIG ddr ram
    2.4 processor dualcore
    A very correct wireless card.

Go give it a look and play with the options if you want to upgrade it a bit more and be willing to shell some more bucks on it.
So you feel that the basic computer, with the battery upgrade, meets all the criteria I specified?

I am more than positive; I did buy mine 2 years ago and it is not as powerful as that one (obviously) and it is more than decent to watch movies and streams as long as you have a good internet connection (of greater importance for streams).
Bilbo seems to have had a very bad experience with is Dell but Me, my brother, mother and a very close and geek friend of mine have all Dell and we haven't have had no major problems whatsoever with it, I did look at more or less every brands before i bought mine and seeked advices to two close and übergeeky friends and they told me that Dell have definitely improved their quality in the 4 last years due to rough rivalry and that now, for the price and quality balance you have for, this is a top choice. I would never lie about such things especially as I am not a Dell sucker, I prefer the Sony Vaio for a couple of reasons but to have a very good computer and a cheap price, Dell are hard to beat at the moment and that's why I went with it.

I should note that I bought the XPS 2010 thru work so I didn't pay the full price. I got a discount on it...

One thing I should mention as well is that I want to be able to take my laptop to class and take notes etc., so size is a concern there as well.

    Great, thanks for your help.

What do you think about this one, it's the Dell 14" Inspiron that I half-assed customized for myself. It's on sale (I think) for $120 off. I'm concerned about portability, so I think the 14" model might work better for me.

Edit: The link doesn't seem to connect to the one I add augmented, but whatever. Thanks again Nameless.
