Default Help CFH choose a laptop.

    Hey kids,

I made a similar thread a while back. I need help trying to figure out which laptop the wife and I should buy. I've been doing a ton of research on them and I seem to be getting bogged down in the minucia here.

So far, I've managed to decide that I need a laptop and not a netbook (I think) and I know what criteria I want the machine to have, but I have no idea how to find out which laptop to buy.

    So here are the criteria:

Price: Under $1,000; preferably under $700-$800, but if I really like the computer I'll be willing to spend a bit more. But I'm cheap, so the less it costs the better

Battery life: This is important to me, ideally I'd like the computer to have well over 3 or 4 hours because of my horrendous addiction to Saddo's. Oh, and because of homework... yeah homework...

Graphics: I'm not much of a gamer, so that's not a huge deal (though I wouldn't mind if it did allow me to play some games or at least allowed me to upgrade it to a gaming capable machine), but it absolutely must allow me to stream boxing and hockey (and other sports) and to watch tv shows/movies etc. Which brings me to my next point...

Internet capabilities: It needs to be fast enough for me to watch boxing streams, sports etc. and to browse/download etc. at a fast speed.

Size: I'd like it to be as portable as possible, so ideally it would be around the 13" - 14" range (just like it's prospective owner if you know what I'm saying... )

I'd also like it to be a reliable machine.

Ok, I think that's it. I'm going to pretend that people actually took the time to read this bullshit and I appreciate any suggestions you have.

Boring-est thread ever? Damn CFH I don't think I can help you out here as that would likely eliminate my entire high.

    Hope this helps.

    I will, while high thankfully.

Actually a quick scan (it's all I could manage) of your needs and they were almost identical to mine and I paid $400 for my laptop. I like it, it's an Acer I bought at Wal-Mart. Acers are good little computers, I like my Acer (formerly Gateway) desktop MUCH more then the ever slow and underperforming Dell desktop I have. HPs are my absolute favorite I think they make the best laptops but Acer for the money is right up there with them. I love my laptop, 15 inch screen and runs great. Check out Walmart man, it's BY FAR your best bet especially if you want the screen size that small. Check it out man pretty much every computer is listed in your price range and lower...

Thank you sir. You know, I haven't gotten high in well over a year, probably a year in a half at least.

Um IDK most of the time at school, bookstore, friends house ect. I have it plugged in. I would guess probably 3.5/4 or 5 hours if I'm only browsing the net I think it lasts like 5 hours or so. Of course if I'm watching a movie fullscreen then that cuts the battery life in half, that is the one frustrating thing.

One thing though, my laptop charger broke and let me give you advice, NEVER BREAK YOUR CHARGER, it's a pain in the ass to replace. I ended up having to buy a new battery/charger for like $130 but it's cool because I have an extra battery now.

Dell Laptops, Desktop Computers, Monitors, Printers, & PC Accessories, that's all I have to say about it.

Price wise for the quality you have for, this is extremely good, plus you can pick up any pieces you want to have inside therefore you pay for what you need. They are cheaper in general than Asus, Alienware (Obviously and though now Alienware belongs to Dell) and you have a very correct guarantee coming with it. Other companies like Sony are making excellent computers too and maybe a bit nicer but you,ll pay more for what you will have.

Here just for fun, I did build you a 15' screen VERY correct for your needs (I took a 15' as it's even cheaper than a 14' screen for 679 cdn bucks:

    500 sata HD
    15' inch HD screen
enhanced battery for lifetime (you should be good for over 4 hours with it on a 15' as I do almost 4 on my 17
    4 GIG ddr ram
    2.4 processor dualcore
    A very correct wireless card.

Go give it a look and play with the options if you want to upgrade it a bit more and be willing to shell some more bucks on it.

So after a long search I think I've found the budget laptop I am after, so I am asking for some knowledgeable opinions on this machine:

It asks for a Canadian Zip Code. Just copy the model into google and link it there. How much?
