Even if you think Thompson was shit () he still had mixed and won at world-class level for cruiserweight. He was a DANGEROUS opponent for anyone!!!

Thompson would have destroyed Maccarinelli at any point (Enzo wouldn't be allowed near him though. That's the difference between fighters like Haye and protected ones).
It wasn't that big of a deal Fenster, Marty Rogan fought Audley Harrison in his 11th fight and Matt Skelton in his twelth beating both.

At the time Thompson wasn't considered any better than either of them, he was a big underdog against Haye.

His 'spectacular' win over Rothman was spectacular only in that he was getting his ass smashed as usual and Rothmann wasn't a world class fighter by any means.

Carl Thompson was 40 years old when he fought Haye, probably the same kind of level as John Thaxton now, or a Danny Williams or Matt Skelton.

A tough challenge and a step up for sure but not someone Haye was expected to slip up against.

Nathan Cleverley beat Toney Oakey in his 13th fight, who was as good as a 40 year old Carl Thompson.

Even the mediocre Tyson Fury fought John McDermott in his 8th fight.

Thompson wasn't expected to be a harder challenge than any of the fights above (except McDermott maybe) and it was a big upset when Haye got smashed.

Sure he's learnt from it, but it was still the kind of slip up that most great fighters don't have on their records.
Seriously Bilbo that is utterly ridiculous.

You think Harrison, Skelton, McDermott and Oakey were on Thompson's level?

These guys have failed everytime they have stepped above Brit level.

It doesn't matter if Thompson was losing he pulled the win out of the bag. Something he did numerous times in his career. He was a seriously dangerous fighter.
I agree with Fenster , Carl Thompson beats Enzo Mac at any time any place.

Also, it's worth noting that Eubank actually looked pretty comfortable at Cruiserweight.

Yup - he looked better in defeat against Calzaghe and Thompson than he did in lots of his victories

Thats because he fought to the level of his opposition, and often fought better when presented with a challenge. plus the Michael Watson fight did effect him somewhat. I agree with you somewhat BIG H, but you could also argue Chris Eubank was weight drained in the Joe Calzaghe fight. Although it was still a brave performance from Chris Eubank, and a good win for a green Joe Calzaghe.

As for the Carl Thompson fights, i think in the 1st fight for the first 4 rounds. Chris Eubank boxed a great fight, and he could of got Carl Thompson out of there atleast twice but let him off.

But the extra Cruiserweight strength did show in the end, and Chris Eubank didn't allow himself to recover long enough in the rematch with that badly swollen eye, great fights though especially the 1st one which could of been the FOTY.

I agree completely with that too, which just highlights how shit Haye's unification opposition was.

Haye had probably the easiest unification route in history. He beat one over the hill fighter and one never was. The O'Neil Bell that knocked out Mormeck would have ko'd Haye imo, shame he went mental he was a tough son of a bitch but he seems to have unravelled now quitting in his last fight.

I think Adamek beats Haye and call me crazy but if Calzaghe could take his punches he could beat him at cruiserweight imo, if Haye decided to cut the weight.

Any of these 5 beat Haye decisively.
