Nah your not understanding what im saying mate, im not doubting Bernard Hopkins wouldn't be a tough fight for Chad Dawson. I'd just like to see Chad Dawson take on some of the new upcoming Light Heavyweights, its more exciting to me rather than a boring controversial tactical fight with Bernard Hopkins.
There's an important factor here that your missing though Ice.

Bernard technically was the linear champ at light heavyweight. He beat Antonio Tarver to claim the undisputed title and was the Ring champ. Since then he lost to Calzaghe in a close fight but Calzaghe has now retired. Also there was no belt on the line against Calzaghe as it was fought at 170 so Hopkins is basically still the linear champ.

You will see that the Ring now have the 175 title as vacant and it will remain as long as B Hop keeps fighting and avoiding Chad Dawson.

Dawson wants to be recognised as the the undisputed champ at 175 and the only way he can lay claim to that is by beating Hopkins.

For Dawsons status as number, for his legacy in beating the old champion and for the universal respect of fight fans he needs to beat Bernard Hopkins.

Wins over the likes of Tarver, Johnson and maybe Pascal or Diaconu won't make him number one the way a win over B Hop will.

Clearly Dawson wants B Hop, its by far the most significant fight out there for him, and he wants to say he beat the champ to become the champ.
Calzaghe - Hopkins was at the 175 weigh limit. Both fighters weighed in at 173 at the weigh in.

Just thought i would let you know.

I agree that Dawson needs Hopkins much more than Hopkins needs Dawson. Dawson fought Tarver and Johnson because they were the biggest names out there other than Hopkins not because they were the best challenges or for legacy reasons.

I don't necessarily agree that Hopkins will handle Dawson. As Taeth mentioned in a post, Hopkins has a problem with athletic, volume punchers, and Dawson is of that breed. Hopkins hits and holds and one way to beat a holder is to win rounds by punching more a la Calzaghe. It didn't work for Pavlik because Hopkins was the bigger man in that fight and wouldn't let Pavlik get off. In Dawson, Hopkins faces a bigger man who he shouldn't be able to manhandle. On first glance, I like Dawson in that fight actually.

Him beating the Young ones isnt gonna get him the exposure he needs. He needs a bunch of names on his resume to have some sort of draw so fighting(and beating if he did) Hopkins would make him a name and he may even get a ppv match out of it. But he has to fight these "old guys" to get his name out because he isnt a naturally hyped ko machine
This is right. He isn't the most exciting fighter to watch because at the top level he hasn't been able to knock out anyone.

My opinion is that assuming Dawson can't fight Hopkins, he should fight the Pascal/Diaconu winner and continue trying to unify, even flying to Germany to beat the Miranda/Stieglitz winner.

Dawson is too fresh, hungry and dangerous for Hopkins.
