Williams knew he lost as well, he had the look of defeat on his face after the fight, while Martinez was all smiles and confident. Too bad that he once again got a bad decision.

I've been a fan of Martinez for awhile now, but I've become an even bigger fan after last night. Just like Cotto, he is pure class, so if Miguel really does retire next year, I think I've found his replacement.

BTW, Martinez knocked the snot out of Williams.

Yep, Martinez is a hot piece of a$$ alright.

But he has many of the same qualities as Miguel that I like..... heart, determination, humble, doesn't make excuses, willing to fight anyone, has mad skills, and is always professional. Those are the qualities that I look for in a fighter.

I scored it a draw but my impression was that Martinez won the fight. I'm not sure how anybody could score the first round for Williams. He was clearly more hurt than Martinez. He was still a little unsure in the 2nd round. I also thought Martinez had Willaims in some serious trouble late. Sergio never looked hurt to me. Paul showed a boatload of heart, as did Martinez.

How about that 5th round!!! They hammered each other for the last min of the round. I'm sure it might get consideration for round of the year.

IMO I think Williams is better off staying away from Pavlik. Kelley has heavy hands and Martinez landed a tonne of clean right hands. Pavlik will KO's Williams if they fight. Williams was hurt a few times in the fight and Sergio is not considered a big puncher.

he's not as big of a puncher as Pavlik, but he punches a lot sharper, which will have an effect on a fighter, Williams has only really struggled against 2 guys, Quintana and Martinez, both are fast, sharp, accurate punchers, both have a slick style, and both are southpaws, that's basically everything Pavlik isn't, IMO Williams outworks Pavlik for a UD or stops him late

Agreed. Although to be fair to Pavlik, he would be the biggest puncher Williams has faced in his career. If Sergio can put him on the canvas, Pavlik has the potential to do the same.

I don't care if Sergio is considered a big puncher or not. He was landing some wide heavy shots that could topple giants. But not Williams! He is going to go down as something great.

I also see Williams getting into trouble with Pavlik, as they are both stalkers and a little heavy on their feet. Willaims doesn't fight rangy enough to make this a difficult fight for Pavlik. I think people are taking a lot away from a guy that has just been out of action for a long time.

I thought Sergio edged it, Williams thought he did too, and Sergio had a look of "I think I know who the judges are going to give this one to" on his face.
"Floyd needs to inject Xylocaine into his balls to gain the courage to fight Pacquiao."

    - and I quote from some random guy on the internet

Are you talking about Williams not fighting for a long time? Because it's been even longer for Martinez. Williams fought Winky in April while Martinez fought Cintron in February. So I don't think that should be used as an excuse for Williams.
