I think Vitali Klitschko was beating Chris Byrd clearly, although Chris Byrd was coming on. But then put it this way Lyle, could Wladimir Klitschko have beaten Corrie Sanders ? could he have been competitive with Lennox Lewis ?

Well of course Vitali was up on the card but he quit didn't he? Isn't that the reason people question Vitali's heart....nobody has questioned Wlad's heart, only his chin.

Could Wlad compete with Lewis, I am not sure, signs point to no but we never saw the fight. Could a PRIME Corrie Sanders compete with the Wladimir Klitschko of today, I HIGHLY doubt it, that one night and poor strategy on Wladimir's part messed that fight up for him, any other night I can't see Sanders giving Wladimir a tough time.

Even though Vitali looked crap the other night I'd still back him to kill his brother everyday of the week.

Vitali looking crap was more a reflection on Johnson not willing to engage at all than Vitali fighting a poor fight. Vitali won every single round.

I'm sorry, hands down, Vitali is WAYYYYY more dangerous. Wlad has to keep his guard up, has to tie smaller fighters up on the inside because if he doesn't his only choice is to get into a fire fight and get his chin cracked or run out of gas. Vitali will keep his hands low and give you peeks just so he can pop you. The guy is completely relaxed and can take a crack regardless. For me I just picture the 2 in the ring against each other and it plays out the same. Wlad can't tie him up, Vitali will just duck back from the straight right and counter until all Wlad throws is jabs and he can maintain a workright his brother can't.

I think there is a common fault people have of saying what Wladimir "Has to do" when they mean to say "What he does" or "CHOOSES to do"....For example:

#1 Wladimir doesn't HAVE to keep his guard up, he does it because it's smart

#2 Wladimir doesn't HAVE to pace himself (very few fighters can go even 6 rounds with him if he lets his hands go) but he paces himself because he's smart

#3 Wladimir doesn't HAVE to tie up little guys who try to get on the inside, he ties them up because it's the smart thing to do

#4 Wladimir doesn't HAVE to always throw the jab but hell if you could land 1 punch 80-90% of the time without the chance of someone trying to retaliate then wouldn't you

Wlad fights SMART and because he fights smart he hasn't lost since the first Lamon Brewster fight and hasn't been knocked down since the Sam Peter fight and I am not sure he has even lost a round since then.

The more I think about it the more the shoe fits in the Gonzalez/Klitschko comparison. The difference Gonzalez gets wound up and wild when he goes for the finish which is when he gets caught, where as Wlad finishes in a very controlled Steward-inspired way.

I would like to add something to my smart-arse remark.

Wladimir must have a good hold on his emotions. I would spit nails if I had a older brother who refused to step aside and let me mop the hallway* with these jokers.

I would have snatched the mic on Saturday and publicly challanged him or ask him to retire and stop being a glory hawk.

I have top agree on these things...Wlad fights a smart fight...At times he is boring but shit point is...

He knows of any weakness he has...He makes sure those are not able to be gotten to by his opp....He takes his man down...He knows what happens if you take too many punches (I mean in general not him personally)...He makes sure he gives out the most offense while absorbing the least in retaliation....

The only real thing I can say about Wlad bad is he is dull at times but hell he wins doesnt he?

The man is a complete package...Size, Power, always in shape....If he really let his hands go and was really agressive with the same quality defense guys would last a lot less rounds then they do now...

I will say though I feel that Wlad even with Manny has thrown a lot less combos then he did before the loss to Sanders...But he toys with opp same as Vitaly....

There really is no one right now to even offer these guys tough fights...

That's pretty much all true Daxx. Wlad used to use every punch in his arsenal...if you watch the fight vs Ray Mercer you'll see Wladimir pretty much at his best pre-Manny Steward.

Right now with Manny he uses the jab and a pawing(at times) left hook and the right cross and that is all. Wlad did have the chance to use some different punches vs Tony Thompson though, he worked the body a little bit.
