Steve Collins: The Forgotten Warrior

I was pissed off with Eubank in their first fight, he had Collins gone, in the 10th I think, it was about 10 seconds before the bell and because the Watson fight robbed him of the finishing touch he stood back and grinned at Collins while his ass sagged through the ropes and he tried to drag himself upright to his feet

I also think that Eubank was a burnt out fighter at that point, look at the schedule leading up to the fight, the amount of rounds he fought and the miles travelled.

The Celtic Warrior is gone but I wouldnt say forgotten. I dont dislike him for beating a fading Benn twice, I actually like him for it. I always disliked Benn he was too dirty for me, I'm glad Steve stopped his career. Though I think Eubank could have easily got the nod in that second fight.

Steve was good but nothing special, peak Benn and Eubanks beat him and he was lucky he did not fight Joe Galzaghe, he would have been humiliated. Do not even want to think what Roy Jone would have done to him.

Steve Collins would have fared as well against Roy Jones as Clinton Woods did.

Not the most skilled boxer ever but def one of the thoughest of his time.

Some memorable bouts he had and IMO, I think he would have gave RJJ fits. I've said it time and time again, he would have came forward and gotten RJJ out of his game plan to give him a tough and very winable fight for Collins. I've always said this...

Sadly though the thing that stands out the most about him was his racist remark towards Eubank.

Stands out the most? Come on, that wasn't even a big deal back then let alone now. He said something like "Eubank thinks he's an Englishman he forgot his roots"

I bet most people don't even remember/know of it.

If memory serves me right he also said something to the extent of him not wanting to be in contact with a black man... Meaning their skin touching.

man one of my first and best memories of boxing is Collins beating Eubamk(first fight) yeah Eubank could habe beat him after he droped him but lacked the killer instinct then, no matter what logic i know noe now it will alwways be one of my favorite fights just because at the time it was the greatest thing ever, sort of like Ireland beating Ensland in 88, yeah they were better but we still pulled off the win

Did not know any of this. The roots thing I can understand, Eubanks was behaving like a English twit, the other stuff I did not know about.

Hard to believe that, but I am not questioning it. Still, I remember when Collins was "Stevie" and hung around Brockton, Dorchester and Southie, and with his short red hair and watch cap, and could have been cast as an IRA terroist in a movie.. He was well liked back then and was trained by a young Freddie Roach at the Petronelli's Gym in Brockton. He and Sean Manion both.

Collins was a hard worker in the ring, he wasn't special or eye catching, but he won fights. I think a Prime Steve Collins would give someone like Kelly Pavlik/Jermain Taylor/Carl Froch big time problems

True but Collins could not necessarily beat them.
