Nice, I actually think Martinez could win this one..He will be at a size disadvantage but he has great lateral movement which would give Pavlik fits
Wouldn't mind seeing this
This fight ain't gonna happen. Pavlik should be hitting the sauce right about now and soon he will punch his fist through yet another plate glass window and he will be penciling in opponents until the end of the year until Alfonso Gomez is ready to move up to 160![]()
Pavlik wont win, you got a guy like Martinez who has electric handspeed and quick movement against a plodding 1-2 guy who has to set his feet to punch, when moving he pushes his punches awfully.. I can see a UD for Martinez, KP always has a punchers chance but like Chaos said he is singing Danny boy about now 3 sheets to the wind in some dive bar in youngstown
I know it ain't guna happen and I kno this won't be a popular post on here but I hope Mundine get's his shot. I know how most feel about him but I'd love to see him get his shot at a world class oponnent so we can really gage where his is at not only at middleweight but also on the world stage.
Taken into account the size difference I still think Martinez has all the tools to beat Pavlik in Hopkins fashion if he stays on point.Much rather see Pavlik Williams though.Pavlike better hurry and grab a biggie, blueprints out on him big time.
Very interesting fight.
I think Martinez was robbed against Paul Williams; GREAT fight, crap decision.
Williams kept coming ahead, but it was ineffective aggression and he made no adjustments. The clean effective shots were by Da Sex.
Williams still took a few rds, but it was clearly Martinez' fight.
I didn't think it was close. Williams was definitely in the fight, but he wasn't winning many rds.
I like Pavlik too, but I think Martinez is gonna be too slick for him with the counter-punching, the speed, the ability to make adjustments, and that he's not...welll....I hate to say it, but Pavlik knows only one way to fight whereas Martinez can change gears. Not 1-dimensional.
Martinex by decision...unless he gets ripped off again on the cards.
I think Martinez is a much harder fight for Pavlik than Paul Williams would have been. Williams is much more hittable plus he's a volume puncher.
Pavlik has a great chin, Williams ain't putting him down, and I think Pavlik would have Williams eyes swelling badly by rd 4.
.
Seriously, Pavlik receives more hate than probably any other top fighter aside from Mayweather and Pacquiao, which is a little odd because he seems to be a sincerely friendly guy. We all drink and do things that are regrettable especially in dive bars. Maybe after Pavlik fights another legit opponent and wins, he'll move back into people's good graces?
Martinez does seem to be a bad style matchup for Pavlik. Pavlik has beat faster fighters before because of his strength and relentlessness, but Martinez moves well and more than anyone else Pavlik has fought, Martinez has the ability to adjust in fights. Also, in the Williams fight Martinez showed that he counters very well.
I think Martinez may be a tougher style matchup for Pavlik than Williams. Williams doesn't move like Martinez and isn't as fast. Martinez won't be there to hit like Williams.
Althugz, I'm not so sure Martinez will be a size disadvantage. His best weight may be 154, but he fought well at 160 against Williams who is around the same size (and longer) than Pavlik without the time usually necessary to prepare for moving up in weight although I think Martinez would have won if the fight had been at 154. What I'm trying to say say is that Martinez seems to be best at 154, but he is very close to his best at 160.
Either way, Martinez is one of the best at around that weight. No doubt about it. Who else is there? Sturm and Williams really.

I think a 50-50 split with Williams would be fair. Kelly is the bigger name still, but Williams has been the one who has been active and actively seeking this fight. I think ppl would have equal interest in seeing Paul. At any rate, this would be more fodder for The Punisher to state how avoided he is.
I think Hopkins exposed some serious leaks in Pavlik's defense and I think Martinez's electric speed and movement makes him a stylistic nightmare for Pav.
Props to Pav for taking this one on and is willing to test himself against the best, but I would go for Martinez taking this one on points.
