Marquez has a better chance of beating Khan that Maidana does. This could be a big mistake, but it's a typical high risk/high reward fight.

I think JMM wins this one by stoppage. Fair play to Khan for wanting the fight. Makes more business sense than a fight against Maidana. Khan can come back if he loses to Marquez, but i'm not so sure he can if he loses to Maidana.

I must be the only one that favours Khan in this one. I think his 4" reach advantage and quicker hands could cause JMM problems from the outside. Freddie Roach doesnt get much wrong when it comes to working out the stylistic stakes in potential match-ups. Also I think the timing may just be right for Khan, not as blatant as the Barrera fight, but still tipping in Khan's favour.
Manny caught out a better and younger JMM initially with his speed in their first fight, Khan could do something similar for me. Also, and I appreciate that it's hard to judge any fighter on his last performance when their opponent is Floyd, but for me JMM showed signs that he got old that night. Weight issues aside, he just didnt really offer anything, and that suprised me. Maybe Roach knows this, in the same way he knew Oscar was finished during the Stevie Forbes fight, and struck whilst the iron was hot, or cold as the case may be.

Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.
I would favor Khan in this one. JMM is 36, will be 37 this year, and fighting at 140 against someone who is sleek of hand and foot. Yes JMM was the lineal champ at 135 but he had to really dig deep against Casamayor and Diaz to win those fights. I feel 140 is a tad too much especially against an younger and bigger guy.
Roach knows when to take certain fights when the other guy looks weak or finished. See Delahoya-Pac, Khan-Barerra, as prime examples. Roach knows when certain guys are ripe to be picked.
This is a huge risk imo. I mean I'd almost rather see Khan-Maidana just because either outcome is bad imo. Khan is tailor made for Marquez though honestly I think Marquez would take that matchup. I like the work Khan has done is rebuilding his career and he was good against Salita. However, to me the Kotelnik fight he just didn't settle in. I don't think he looked all that comfortable on the outside, he's not the sharpest puncher and Marquez is among the sharpest counter-punchers in the game. Marquez just isn't going to be overwhelmed with physical ability by Khan when he just went 12 rounds with Mayweather.
Don't know why they wouldn't want to try to beat Maidana before someone else does.
I still think Marquez stops Khan even though Khan has the speed and size advantage and Marquez is on the decline.
same here
How the hell can anyone justify believing khan will beat marquez. Marquez isnt MAB and is far from over the hill. The main problem for him will be bulking up enough to compete as solidly at 140 than he did at the lower weights.
Khan starts brighter but it soon becomes abundently clear ala:hatton-pac that marquez is getting through too often on the inside and landing big. By 5-6 khan starts taking bigger more sapping punches and reverts to a more defensive strategy. By the end of the 12th marquez has done more than enough to justify a big points win but ends up having to take a narrow decision.
one dangerous horrible bloke
Schaefer says Amir Khan-Juan Manuel Marquez for May 15 - Bad Left Hook
It looks like Schaefer is trying to finalize the deal and it could be May 15.
No your not matey.
While JMM isn't an old shot Barrera, he has still had wars and that's going to take it out of you. I also think the 140 is too big for him. At his age weight making isn't a struggle because the body is naturally growing more muscular, it's because metabolism has slowed and it's harder to get those pounds off. Marquez also has a habbit of starting slow so Iwould expect Khan to jump on him and try and blast him out in the first few rounds.
These factors put with Khan's hight and reach advantage.......
Don't get me wrong, I'd love JMM to put Khan on his sorry ass, but really Khan and Roach wouldn't take this fight unless they thought they'd win it.
Any chance JMM could demand the fight be lighter than 140, at cachweight or even 135? He is the bigger name after all, why should amir have all the advantages? Khan fought at 135 less than 12 months ago. Watch Roach and Khan run away if something like that is suggested.
