    Great Rematches That Never Happened

How could these be greatest rematches if they never happened?

    Next question!

Jones Hopkins. did we really need to wait 17 years for it?

What would of been the point of ODLH vs FMJ ?

The 1st fight was close enough and it might have had a different outcome if they fought again... Maybe.

It wasn't really that close i had it 7-4-1. I think most people now realize it wasn't that close. And FMJ would of got alot of flack for taking a rematch, for a fight he won clearly by atleast 3 rounds.

I have never fully understood why Hagler took his bat and ball and went home after the Leonard fight, he sulked, he complained, but did nothing about it in the ring with a rematch? Strange decision.
Foreman V Ali, this one puzzles me as Foreman was the huge favourite to win, surely a rematch was discussed or was George mentally scarred by Ali in the rumble?
Chavez V Whitaker is the most obvious, such a poor decision first time around.
    Calzaghe V Hopkins!
Foreman-Ali II was headed towards that direction in early 1977. Foreman had taken a little over a year off after losing the title and sulked in disbelief and self denial as to what happened before beginning his comeback in early 1976. The loss to Jimmy Young derailed his comeback for another ten years. Still he did get his title back, 20 years after losing the title, still wearing the same trunks he wore when he lost to Ali.

We didn't need 17 years but for some reason Hopkins kept derailing it with his attitude over money issues.

    Next question!

That's the whole point, they could have been great had they happened

As other pointed out, Chavez looms large in this category. Sweet Pea was denied a rematich, Taylor II occorred way after Taylor's prime, but the most painful one of all, IMO, was Frankie Randall.

Randall defeated Chavez convincingly the first time around and looked like he was on the verge of doing it again in the 2nd fight, ony to have the fight stopped (or Chavez's desire to stop fighting strangely honored) on cuts and somehow given to Chavez.

The third fight took place a billion years later and Randall had already lost a trillion times by then. He didn't have the name recognition for other big fights. the robbery in 2nd fight and effective denial of a rematch really was a cruel thing to do to the man.

Co sign.Have the utmost respect for Chavez and he made some nice adjustments in that 2nd go.But Randal was shaking off some hellacious body shots and touching Chavez more and more,I think the writing was on the wall and Chavez pulled a no mas.The 3rd 'fight' was all about stats and pride for JCC...and a pay check for a out of rehab Randall.Damn shame his demons got the better of him...Frankie was a superb fighter when on and 'right'.

He begged Leonard for a year for a rematch but SRL wouldn't give him one.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Zarate /Pintor 2 needed to happen, shame Zarate hung em up.

Barrera /Hamed. No not needed but another 12 rounds of that would have been great fun

Mike Weaver vs. John Tate because Weaver lost every round until John Tate lost focus in the fifteenth round at the last minute and became the ex heavyweight titlist.
Edwin Rosario vs. Hector Camacho. He was the one responsible for Macho's non involving style by hitting him so hard he stayed on his bicycle for the rest of his career. Rosario did win the lightweight title later.
George Foreman should have fought Ali his very next fight but then we may not have seen the nice guy that gave us that wonderful grill. Doug Jones should have had an instant rematch after losing by a point to Muhammad Ali.
George Foreman and Ron Lyle should have done it one more time because those five rounds were electrifying. Of course I still think Hagler could have walked over Ray Leonard in the rematch that never came to pass.
