Your thoughts on Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko?

I hate old threads because I can never remember what I posted when they started. My viewpoints often change in the meanwhile. Maybe they did in this, maybe not. I don't recall.

Anyway, it was a very decent scrap and nobody really lost. Lewis not giving the rematch was quite telling though.

Now lets put Lewis-Klitschko into perspective....

Lennox was preparing for a warm up go through the motions type fight with Kirk Johnson. He barely trained. Vitali was on the underscard eager to impress & in great shape. Johnson pulled out 2 weeks before the fight. Rather than see the card scrapped Lennox did something no champion has ever done before. Lennox took on his #1 contender, risking his title at only 2 weeks notice & barely 80% in shape.
Lennox was lethargic to say the least and give him his due Vitali was giving it his all & was slightly ahead, but the tide was turning & Lennox almost beheaded Vitali with a vicious uppercut that left Vitali barely hanging on.
The fight was rightly stopped because of the horrific damage to Vitali's face but the fight would not have gone two more rounds without the cuts.Lennox was ready to bring down the curtain.
A barely 80% Lewis stopped Vitali a 100% Lewis would have destroyed him. Lennox is now happily retired , a rich man with a beautiful wife & family secure in the knowledge he beat every man brave enough to get in the pro ring with him.

...and Vitali had been preparing to fight Cedric Boswell so your point is erroneous. Lewis was the champ it's HIS JOB to come to fight in shape no matter how good or bad his opponent is....that's a piss poor excuse

He doesn't need an excuse, he stopped him in 6 rounds and won the fight

Very true. It's Vitali who needs the excuses. VK was in his prime and lost to a 38 year old, faded champ who weighed the heaviest in his career. (Due to taking training lightly and trying to run the promotional side of the event)

Vitali gave his best but was saved from further punishment - punishment that was dished out by an old Lennox fists.

Lennox in his prime would have absolutely murdered VK.

Even a Prime Lewis got hit and hit hard....Shannon Briggs should have scored a knockdown over him as the ropes held him up. I think Vitali would have NEVER been an easy fight for Lennox Lewis.....6 rounds or not it wasn't a walk in the park for Lewis and by no means was Lewis the "clear winner". Winning just because of a freak cut on Vitali's eyelid stopped the fight doesn't really mean Lewis dominated or had an easy go, sometimes you have to be a little lucky and he was a little lucky.


And Yes before anyone even mentions it #1 I know there were other cuts that Lewis caused #2 None of the other cuts were going to stop the fight in the next 2 rounds #3 Yes I know Lewis targeted the eye, it's what a good fighter is supposed to do and Vitali was still fighting back hard because when you have a cut you still have to win rounds and that's what he was doing.

Nobody said it was going to be easy. But the facts are that Lewis was an old man with one foot already in retirement and out of shape and even the worst version of Lewis gave Vitali all the trouble he could handle.

Vitali landed flush numerous times on the oldman and couldn't floor him like you say even Briggs stumbled Lennox and he was fighting a man in his prime so it all makes this 90+ Ko percentage abit laughable - if your beating crap you will score plenty of Ko's and the Klitschkos have been fighting crap HW's for the most part.

Anyway Lennox WTKO 6th over Vitali - It's written in history - some people need to deal with it.
