Four Kings: Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran and the Last Great Era of Boxing
    By George Kimball

Their names are legendary: Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hit Man Hearns, and Roberto Duran. They were exceptional boxers with unique combinations of power and speed. In another era, with few rivals of equal caliber, each might have held championship belts for years on end. But as it was, they matured together in the 1980s and fought each other as middleweights. With unforgettable courage and skill, they ruled the ring and ushered in the last Golden Age of boxing.

George Kimball takes an authoritative look at the rivalries that fueled this great era in sports history. Veteran sports journalist Kimball reported on every one of the Four Kings’ nine internecine fights. Here his eye-witness coverage is enhanced by recent interviews with each of the boxers and other seasoned analysts. The result is a fast-paced, blow-by-blow account of four extraordinary adversaries and a remarkable boxing epoch.

    American Son: My Story
By Oscar De La Hoya with Steve Springer

From Oscar De La Hoya, one of the most celebrated fighters in the history of boxing, comes a frank and touching memoir about achieving the American Dream: his rise to the top, the power of a solid work ethic, his mother's painful death from cancer, the pitfalls of stardom, and a very personal take on what it means to be an American

The son of Mexican-born parents, Oscar "The Golden Boy" De La Hoya has had an astonishing career. From boxing to business, from the recording industry to the charitable accomplishments of his foundation, his success is a testament to what one can achieve in the United States. But who is this man who has changed the lives of so many? Who has imprinted a positive mark upon the sport of boxing, for which many have all but given up hope? Who has become a symbol of success for an entire community, without many heroes to call their own?

    American Son answers these questions.

Born into a boxing family, De La Hoya has defeated more than a dozen world champions and won six world titles as well as an Olympic gold medal—a moment forever marked in the memory of anyone who has followed his career. Yet within the maelstrom of this success lay a man whose earnest belief in the goodness of everyone around him sometimes led him to stray far from his intended path. This book is The Golden Boy, and he bares his most heartbreaking mistakes as well as his most stunning triumphs for all of the world to see.

This thrilling tale of an immigrant's son—a quintessentially American story—is the chronicle of an amazing journey that will provide readers with new insight into the private life of a figure who has to many reached iconic status.

How To Be an Ass-Whipping Boxer
    by J.C. Thomas

Representing J.C. Thomas's ideas on boxing, this was originally published as separate booklets, once advertised in Ring Magazine. The book is full of the author's braggadocio, and personal opinions on boxing. J.C. Thomas advocates a stance similar to George Benton's and the Mayweather clan of boxing, which many people now refer to as the "philly shell" defense. It's content regarding stance, footwork and counters is what stands out.

Glad to hear it. I'll try to make some more book scans in the future.

Anyway, if there are any particular books that you or anyone here liked, why not drop a couple of lines here about the book, e.g. what stood out? I'll also share my thoughts, as I've read a lot of the books here.

I really like the Fighting Fit book. It really goes into a lot of detail about how to work the bag, much more so than I've seen in other books. Also enjoy the section on counterpunching. Thanks for uploading these man.

The "fight" is the 1975 world heavyweight championship bout in Zaire between then reigning king of the ring Muhammad Ali and up-and-coming George Foreman. Mailer relays the events of the actual fight and includes the observations of George Plimpton, Hunter S. Thompson, and others.

Blows to the Head: How Boxing Changed My Mind

"`Why am I fascinated by boxing?' asks Binnie Klein. And like a savvy fighter, she approaches her question from a variety of angles: Is it to do with being Jewish? Being a woman? Approaching middle age? Is it about family history? Klein tackles these questions with a deft and admirably light touch. The result is the warmest, funniest, and most tough-minded boxing book I've ever read."

Kasia Boddy, author of Boxing: A Cultural History "...[a] delighted tone permeates Binnie Klein's memoir of her boxing obsession ... [the] passages are lean and strong, and convey the allure of pushing a body and mind past their usual limits ... [Klein] doesn't hold back from considerable self-reflection, but it never seems self-indulgent, only pensive." -- ForeWord Reviews "A graceful, deft celebration of body and soul. Brava to Binnie Klein for tapping her strength--physical, emotional, and spiritual--and for telling a knockout of a personal story."

Ghosts of Manila: The Fateful Blood Feud Between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier

    By Mark Kram

When Muhammad Ali met Joe Frazier in Manila for their third fight, their rivalry had spun out of control. The Ali-Frazier matchup had become a madness, inflamed by the media and the politics of race. When the "Thrilla in Manila" was over, one man was left with a ruin of a life; the other was battered to his soul.
Mark Kram covered that fight for Sports Illustrated in an award-winning article. Now his riveting book reappraises the boxers -- who they are and who they were. And in a voice as powerful as a heavyweight punch, Kram explodes the myths surrounding each fighter, particularly Ali. A controversial, no-holds-barred account, Ghosts of Manila ranks with the finest boxing books ever written.
