Clottey said Pacquiao doesn't hit hard then why he's reluctant to engage?

Everyone is a bit harsh on Clottey no?....Yes this excuse is just plain out stupid but other then that....

He fought the way he fights, he was overwhelmed by speed, he landed some shots but was worried about opening too much due to getting caught by speed..,.

Outside of this fight Clottey has been pretty damn solid of a fighter no?...Never has been really beaten up.....Margarito was losing til the broken hands, Cotto got all he could handle and luck to escape with a win, Baldomir getting it too him when the DQ happened...

Hatton and DLH did not get this much backlash

I think Joshua Clottey gets alot of stick, because its always the same with him. He's a talented fighter whos a good all rounder.

But he always lacks the killer instinct,the heart and also the mental game. He was comfortably beating Carlos Baldomir, but again his mental game let him down and he failed.

Against Antonio Margarito he fought a good fight, for a quarter of the way. But because he injured his hand, and by the way he never broke anything. And plenty of fighters have won or atleast tried harder, with much worse injuries.

He basically went into a defensive shell, and lacked the heart to try and win. And instead was just happy with a half good performance and just survive.

Against Miguel Cotto again his mental game let him down, he seemed to totally lose focus at times. Especially in the 7th round i think it was, when he just layed on the ropes getting battered, not too mention when he slipped and made such a big deal out of nothing.

But despite all that what really let me down, was in the later rounds. When Joshua Clottey had the fight won, but again lacked the heart and the killer instinct.

When he pretty much had Miguel Cotto beat. He let Miguel Cotto outhustle him, when he should of been the one pressing the action.

And lastly against Manny Pacquiao, it was the biggest fight of his life. And he should of let it all hang out, but instead was content just to survive, only throwing 300+ punches compared to Manny Pacquiao's 1200+.

I personally thought despite Joshua Clottey letting me down in the past, he'd really go for it considering how big this fight is. But again it was a disappointing display by Joshua Clottey.

I've always said Joshua Clottey is a talented fighter, but he lacks vital things which you can't teach. And that is Heart, Killer Instinct, Strong Mentality. And those 3 things are why he has failed to reach to elite level, and those 3 things will always stop him reaching the elite level.

But as someone who has been a Clottey fan for years this was always sadly predictable. Pacquiao is the ultimate bad style match up for Clottey because he doesn't look to create openings to counter, but rather just waits for the opponents to offer them. I was actually surprised how often he connected.

I do think people look to make excuses for him in the past though. I thought he beat Cotto, but he could have taken it out of the judges hands by stopping him if he'd just put a bit more effort in, especially considering he was in New York on the eve of Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The Margarito fight was one he would have lost regardless of his hands, it would have been like Saturday. Margarito just threw too many punches for him to deal with. Similarly the Baldomir fight he was ahead on the judges scorecards, but not by much & was fading badly & I think the fouls were his way of trying to get out of there without being stopped or dropped, which I think was a possibility.

Clottey was chosen because he's a perfect match-up for Pacquiao to look great against whilst being credible. I don't think he lacks heart, but he doesn't have mentality it takes to be elite. Still, I'm glad he got a life-changing payday.
