I don't see what Winky Wright has done recently that merits a shot at Martinez. He looked ancient last time out against Williams. I've no interest in such a fight TBH.

Ive got nothing but appreciation for a always overlooked Wright but respectfully at this huge momentum point in career...Martinez should be aiming higher. At one point this would have been a great crossroads match up but Wright has literally done nothing for last 2,3 years.Hey...in his peak and prime,I think Wright handles Martinez but I honestly think thru his age, career activity and last preformance...hes done!
If they cannot make a Williams/Cintron rematch..and frankly if Cintron has not risen off the floor yet....Williams/Martinez 2 is a must!
I agree with giving Martinez a somewhat easy first title defense. I just don't see what Winky has done recently to deserve such a fight.
I'm not so sure that Martinez should have an easy defence either. He is 35 pushing 36 and really hasn't got long left. He should make the biggest 3 or 4 biggest fights he can and get out on top if he can. Fighting an old Winky who was beaten easily by Williams won't prove anything.
I would make the defense against somebody who has a fair share of popularity and who's at least a top 10, 35-36 he needs some more visibility if he wants to compete for one or two big last payday.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
Well who knows....they both lost to Paul Williams. Martinez doesnt have Paul Williams reach, may be a different fight for Winky, but I just don't see him doing enough offensively to win this...he's old/low output now. Well at least he seemd that way against Williams.
Hopefully this fight doesn't happen as its hard to get excited about it. Winky seems to get wheeled out every so often abit like Zab Judah.
I don't see atall what fighting Winky Wright does for Martinez. Its exactly the same as what Calzaghe adding Jones or Hopkins to his resume meant. No point in this fight for me, it just gives the impression that the division is light on talent.
Although I think this would be a candidate for most boring fight of the year. Maybe a runner-up to B-Hop and Jones Jr though, but I would be interested in this match-up. I don't think it is a clear cut win for Martinez. Winky is one of the all-time great defensive masters and he could make Martinez look very stupid at times and counter the hell out of him. Then again that would have been the Winky of five years ago. So who know's I have no idea on this one but I would like to see it.
I think this fight would be all wrong for Martinez. The style match up is gonna be ugly. With Winkys style, the opportunities aren't going to be plentiful. The room for leading is even worse when you consider Winky just works off the jab and Martinez likes to sit outside wait for opportunities then use his speed to bridge a gap , score and then get out. Its hard for Martinez to look impressive in this fight. If theres anything that can kill the buzz after the pavlik fight, its fighting a guy who jabs out of a shell and plays your shadow for 12 rounds. Look at what it did for Pacquiao against Clottey.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
