Exactly!!
Toney will be dangerous as long as he avoids the takedown and with Toneys timing he could easily step back and use the uppercut to KO ANYONE who comes rushing in with their head down the way they do in MMA.
Both though are old men but at least Randy has kept himself in shape and is a genuine 205-220lbs fighter and not a fat blown up 160-168lbs fighter. There is no age advantage in this, they are oth too old to be fighting as professional fighters IMO but Randy has not fought anywhere near as many times as Toney and that for me makes Toney the more ring worn.
Thinking of this as a typical mma fight, I see Toney getting rugby tackled to the floor and thats it, same as i see for Mayorga, or any other boxer.
On the other hand, I can see why Toney and Mayorga are so confident because I boxed amature 18 fights, I also spared with some local BJJ boys that were trained by Braulio Estima and before I boxed i did freestyl;e karate for a couple of years.
I have to say that boxing gives you the most confidence fight wise, you know you can take or avoid a shot, you have composure under pressure and dont panick and go in to the fetal position like Tito Ortiz and you know, your punches can do damage and if not knockout single punches, you still know they are enough to make your opponent very wary of engaging after even just one stiff shot because theyve never been hit as easily before because theyve never truly cross trained before. Only a very small minority of mma fighters bother to spar with decen boxers, those that have, do have much better striking ability, those thjat havent seem to shiit a brick when anyone can string together more than one meaningfull shot.
Mayorga may get taught a lesson but lets be honest, Myorga has only taken this fight for the cash, its only because of Mayorga that anyone is interested. Mayorga could sub withing 10 seconds and still will earn more than Thomas for this fight.
If Thomas does decide to try his luck, testing his boxing then Mayorga will run through him! Watch the first round of Mayorga v Vargas, mayorga is similarly out of shape but throws everything at vargas, vargas keeps his gloves up and and prays, while Mayorga batters him around, Mayorga still manages to drop Vargas. If Thomas tries to trade, Mayorga might full well know hes not fit but he wont pace himself, he will still throw everything he has and go hell for leather, so itll either be Mayorga by Ko in the first or a Thomas submission.
Oh bring in the clowns.Ive gone rouge on this and am not sure why?? I hope Couture knocks him cold. And no one at all in the mma should think they are facing "the" James Toney who is relevant.Means nattas!
A wrestling powerhouse in top condition like Couture is perhaps one of the worst case possible for Toney. ONe punch can make all the difference but Couture has so much experience, I hardly see how James could pull that one.
