He didn't look rust, he was sharp and quite fast and won in the best way he could without getting unnecessary damage, almost the best scenario possible.

I am not so sure... Morales on the other hand is fighting above what he should and though he did win, he wasn't that impressive at all.

    Barrera vs Soto in September
Marco Antonio Barrera-Humberto Soto Rumored For Sept - Boxing News

Barrera has the chance to make history in his next fight. In his last contest he fought in his 8th weight class and in his next fight he can become the first Mexican 4 weight champion when he moves back down to lightweight to face Soto. Arum says Barrera has the choice of him or the WBA champ Acosta but because Soto is Mexican it would be a huge fight in Mexico where the fight is taking place.

On paper both guys have similar records. Barrera is the higher calibre fighter but Soto is the guy closer to his prime. Their common opponents are Kevin Kelly and Rocky Juarez. Barrera beat them both but Soto is 1-1.

This could be a classic tear up to rival the great fights on Barreras record. Soto can bring the best out in him and both guys can mix it with classy combinations. Soto has had it easy recently and looks the part. Marco looked surprisngly sharp last time and had plenty left at the end.

How do you see this one going? Only a couple months away from a potential fight of the year?

IMO Soto's been on the slide as of late, i've said it even before the Diaz fight, but i think he has a lot more left in the tank and he'll either outwork Barrera or stop him late

I think Barrera can pull the win, but I was hoping for one more quick tune up at 135 proper before going for any belts. It's a little too quick for me.

Hey...I'll take it.Nice fight.Barreras last hoorah and Soto can be boxed with good effect. Not sure about Barreras weight.Soto does not shy away from mixing it up and over commits on uppercuts.Big fan of Soto....but I want Barrera to win this and go out. This one is making me bipolar...but I think Soto is much fresher, sharper hitter with good pop and will keep it smart with old vet and pull away late for dec win...or tko on cuts.

yep another tune-up for me would be better but you have to trust Team Barrera know what they're doing.

Yeah youd like to think so but they also thought it was a good idea for Barrera to fight Khan in England afew weeks after he suffered a bad cut when he was already guaranteed a title shot so I hope Marco thinks long and hard and makes his decision based on the right reasons.

Soto is a hard fight but it is a winnable one for Barrera. If Marquez, Morales and Pac couldnt stop Barrera in recent years I dont think Soto can either unless its another dogy cuts from headbutt stoppage.

Soto strikes me as abit of a lazy fighter which will suit Barrera but at this stage in his career I think he has more snap and speed than Barrera. They may box at range for afew rounds but it could suddenly catch fire and when it does it has the potential to be a great fight with those two trading punches. Look forward to it.
