How would Kelly Pavlik do if he was in the super six tournament?

If it was just a simple matter of out boxing or out working Abraham then Arthur would have more losses on his record. Right now, based on the loss vs Dirrell you need a VERY slick boxer who is accurate and has some power. You ASSUME that AA doesn't do early damage, when he actually does. AA counters early, he enjoys hurting and stopping his opponents and he has enough power to stop them as soon as he starts countering. I might remind you that AA's counters are crisp, concise, accurate, and powerful...Pavlik's punching has holes and if he misses or is blocked he's wide open to counters. Jermain Taylor damn near stopped him...AA's power would demolish him!

Abraham has fought one fighter who is superior to Kelly Pavlik and he lost. He's one of my favorite fighters (and I generally have very few fighters I almost always cheer for), but someone with a high work-rate and power will give him a lot of trouble. I think Froch has a good chance of beating him and he's worse defensively than Pavlik.

My view is Pavlik & Froch's wide punches, thrown often but with poor defense are a greater risk in a fight than Arthur Abraham's direct punches thrown rarely and defense used well.

Abraham is just too concise with his punches and his punches are too powerful to be overcome by a wilder opponent.

I agree about Froch, I think if Abraham opens up early and counters him effectively he'll stop him. HOwever, if he waits and covers up and lets Froch get going, I think he could be in trouble. Froch often starts slow as well though, so I don't think it would be as big a deal against him as it would against Pavlik.

I don't think Pavlik punches wide though, he's just relatively slow and plodding; I've rarely seen him throw widely.

#1 The reason guys like Bernard Hopkins and AA win fights is that they plan to outwork/outland/outbox their opponent for 7 rounds out of 12.

#2 Pavlik isn't super wide but slow, plodding, mentally lacking, and semi-wide with his punches vs when you factor in solid defense and good power punches on the part of his opponent you see he's vulnerable to the game of AA

I cant see Green giving Pavlik too many concerns.Think he was a bit exposed and a one trick pony vs Ward.Pavlik is limited,in the truest since of the word,but he is a straight puncher through and through down the middle.He gets wide/loopy to body and telegraphs his offense with his feet.Literally stomps his feet to punch but wont shy from a fire fight and Green dont have the stones I believe to stand in as he'll have to do with wider power.He should of stayed at 168 in the first place.He didnt lose to Hopkins because of the weight.

That is a very good point. And if it were against a motivated Kelly Pavlik, it would be tough fight to call. And when I first thought about it, I hear you on the power and volume punching, but after thinking about it I think Abraham would just come out of his shell a little bit earlier and not allow Kelly to hurt him the first few rounds. More and more I think about it, Abraham knocks out Kelly cold.

If either Froch or Kessler are knocked out of the Super Six tournament, either one is a great fight for Kelly in six/nine months.
