Certainly doesn't look like something that would KO someone like Mercer anyway!
Anyone else agree?

difficult to say
you see some knockouts from short punches that dont look like they should do the damage that they do
why would he take a dive?
Well Mercer in his later years I know struggled with cash, which is the main reason he has crossed to MMA. He can't get the big fights in boxing anymore but at least with MMA he can be used (by MMA fans at least) to pit boxing against MMA and make decent money each fight over there. So he may have took the dive for money, knowing that he could probably make some money that way. I hope not but it is a theory!!
how did he do in MMA?
i saw one of his fights where he knocked some big white guy with a beard out in one punch
Thats his only real fight to date, and that guy was Tim Sylvia, the former UFC HW champ, although Mercer lost to Kimbo Slice in an exhibition bout that Mercer claimed that he and Kimbo had agreed to stick to boxing, but Kimbo took him down when Ray said "he wasn't expecting it" and submitted him. I don't know about that but the fight with Sylvia showed Ray still has a punch that if landed can KO anyone in MMA.
Looks a bit suspect, but I'm not sure why Ray would ever take a dive at this level. A win over Briggs would have had the casual fan talking about him and would have at least increased Ray's credibility (and $$$) in the MMA world. He probably was a bit dizzy after the 3 short rights to the ear against the ropes and could get himself straight in time...No smoke from the "grassy knoll" on this one....
I can see where your coming from but this man could take one hell of a beating and still come back and win. Watch this against Morrison.
Fair enough he was quite a bit younger and that could be the reason but it still looked very soft to me especially to be KO ing someone like Mercer.
Maybe but it doesn't make sense. If he was gonna take a dive why would he wait 7 rounds to do it?
To make it look legit
I don't think he took a dive, I think Mercer is too good for that. I just think all the beatings he took have taken their toll on his chin.
Ray got TKO'd by Remy Bojansky in an MMA match
I just think his chin finally went, granted he didn't go down, but he took that kick FLUSH
I remember this fight well. It was on an obscure PPV (NON HBO/SHOWTIME) that I ordered to see David Tua. Tua wound up not fighting, why I cannot recall.
I was shocked at the time, but told myself that Mercer wouldn't do that to me.
**Sorry I thinking of two different fights for a moment and forgot which one I was talking about.**

I hadn't joined the site yet. Wow.
Mercer got careless on the ropes and Briggs was behind him what I saw on the film was two punches delivered while he was on the ropes and Shannon in my estimation was looking every bit a disqualifying loser but no dive for mercer. It looked like he took two foul shots with right hands and holding Mercer in place with his left hand and one shot one I believe was on the ear along the ropes. The film speaks for itself doesn't it?
