Shannon Briggs V Ray Mercer plus David Tua returns

By Boxing Press August 15th, 2005 All Press Releases

The press conference almost led to a fight before the fight, but even though cooler heads prevailed when Shannon Briggs and Ray Mercer squared off in New York City last Monday, this week the temperature will start to approach the boiling point as participants on the August 26 Heavyweight Heat show - which will be held at the new beautiful Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida – will let the media and fans catch a glimpse of them preparing for their toughest challenges yet.

All workouts are open to the public, as well as the media, and will take place in Seminole Paradise at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

First up, on Tuesday, August 16th at 6:00pm, former lineal Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs (42-4-1, 36 KOs), who battles “Merciless’ Ray Mercer in the main event of “Heavyweight Heat”, will show the world the power and speed that has sent 42 opponents down to defeat (including 36 by knockout).

On Wednesday, August 17th at 6:00pm, highly regarded Junior Welterweight Juan “Iron Twins” Urango (15-0-1, 12 KOs) will work out for the public as he gets ready for his showdown with slick boxing New Yorker Andre Eason.

Next, two-time World Heavyweight Title challenger Jameel “Big Time’ McCline (31-5-3, 19 KOs) will prepare for his bout with veteran Steve Pannell with an open workout at 6:00pm on Thursday, August 18th.

And finally, on Friday, August 19th at 8:00pm, Warriors Boxing Promotions, Inc. is pleased to present a “Ring Card Girl Search” to determine who will put the “sweet’ into the sweet science on August 26.

“HEAVYWEIGHT HEAT”, an evening of world class professional boxing presented by Warriors Boxing Promotions, Inc., in association with Cedric Kushner Promotions and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, takes place on Friday, August 26th, at the new Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. The card will be televised live on Showtime Pay-Per-View beginning at 9pm ET / 6pm PT.

In the main event, long-time contenders Shannon Briggs and Ray Mercer battle it out in a heavyweight grudge match, and in the co-feature, knockout artist David Tua will make his return to US rings with a ten rounder against Cisse Salif. In addition, Heavyweight standouts Jameel McCline and Lance Whitaker will compete in separate bouts, and IBF Cruiserweight Champion O’Neil Bell will make the first defense of his title against South Africa’s Sebastiaan Rothmann. Also on the card will be unbeaten Junior Welterweight sensation Juan Urango, who tangles with Brooklyn’s Andre Eason.

For tickets, priced at $150, $100, and $50, for more information please call 954.523.3309 or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
