it was bad but not terrible, the outcome of course was horrific and could of been tragic on another night
i would say the peter stoppage was far more damning on the refs side than this one
one dangerous horrible bloke
I was in upper 9 and nearly missed the first ko as I was watching the trouble in the crowd but turned round to see him knocked down for the first time and was amazed he got up. Was stood up and when he got knocked down again, was literally speechless. Hands on my head. Absolutely disgraceful decision to let him carry on - his corner needs to take some of the blame as well in my opinion. It is down to his corner to protect him - I'd have thrown the towel in after that. He could have been killed. Was quite uncomfortable seeing the replays to be honest - Enzo is a top bloke and you would hate to see anyone knocked out like that - especially when it could've been avoided.
It was a brutal, sickening KO.
The ref should have stopped it. Though the corner should have realised an acted and thrown the towel in after Enzo got up so shakily.
That last left hook I thought was gonna take off Enzo's head.
I thought Erkki Meronen did a pretty good job in the fight. Outstanding actually. He let the fighters fight on the inside. And I can't recall him really breaking than up when he shouldn't of. He was pretty much unnoticeable through out the fight. Which is the way a ref should be. Sure Maccrapanelli got knocked the fuck out in great fashion. But I don't see why the ref should be bad mouthed. Enzo was winning the fight up to that point. He's regarded as a heavy puncher. So the chance of a hail mary punch was there. He was hurt. No doubt. But he beat the count. He got up. Fighters being badly hurt before and coming back to win has happened.

One of the main purposes of having the third man in that ring is to protect the fighters when they don't know well enough to protect themselves. He came up from that count not looking stable, and with his hands down the ref shouldn't have let him walk into a execution like that. There's letting a fighter have a chance, and there's letting him get hurt, that was an example of the second.
He continued from that? That's one of the craziest knockdowns I've ever seen...
I saw Larry Holmes not once but twice get up from brutal knock downs to win. Against Shavers and Snipes. The Shavers one looked to have render him unconscious before he even hit the floor. Yet he still got up and won. Granted Enzo is more Katie Holmes than Larry Holmes. But the point stands.
Seems like the ref is damn if he stops it. And damn if he doesn't. The ref stops that Enzo fight and I guarantee you Enzo complains of a bad stoppage. Lennox Lewis to this day thinks his fight with McCall was stopped early. Despite him stumbling around with damn near the whole round left to go. Does anybody really think Lewis would of survived that round? I don't. But he wanted the chance.
