It was an answer to Bilbo's rant against Canada according to which we are meaningless and never produced a meaningful athlete, VD
What I find hilarious is that you are all having to go back 20 years and pick some marginal sports at best to attempt to prove me wrong.

What I find hilarious is that you're talking with a lot of rhetoric but with slim to none content to back your boisterous kiddies rant against Canada but it's alright, we all know that though you're quite cool, you're a real nutter

A few names to educate you a bit more and something good within the last 10 years as you switched your criteria from "THEY NEVER PRODUCED ANY GOOD ATHLETES" to "NOTHING IN THE LAST 20 YEARS"

Lennox Lewis (you knew he was Canadian and defended our colors at the Olympics, right?)

Martin Brodeur (considered to be best goalie of all time, ice hockey, still playing)

GSP, considereed to be one of the top 3 best MMA fighter and one of the top 10 till the discipline exists

Justin Morneau MVP all around player, baseball, still playing

Steve Nash, basketball, multi MVP and one of the best players in the game, still playing

Cindy Classen, 8 olympic medals around her neck, skating

Canadian winter olympic teams: Even with a "boosted" budget and with only 35 millions citizens, as much as I despise the olympics, we've beaten the record for the biggest number of gold medals won in a single olympics

I could double or triple this list but I am too lazy and just this little list debunk your funny beliefs one hand in the back Now bow down to my awesomeness and make me a sandwich silly hobbit.

p.s: salad, bacon, roasted beef with mayonaise and no tomatoes.
    Mate, you forgot The Mountie.
Yeah, and the mounties! And perhaps the greatest wrestling entertainer ever: Bret the Hitman Hart

I was thinking of The Mountie from wrestling. America had the Big Bossman. Pfft.

Brett Hart is a good call.

The biggest call of all is surely Sam Langford.

So. Canada basically has Bute and a bunch of Ice hockey, baseball, basketball, and Olympic field event winners on its roster. Ooh and the mighty wrestling...someone or other.

Still pretty meaningless, most of those sports have no meaning in the real world. No offense but to make a list of these kinds of people is a bit sad.

For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I'm not really interested in arguing about Canadian athletes, but baseball and basketball are huge sports both in North America and throughout the world. Just because they're not played in the UK/Western Europe doesn't mean they have no relevance.

And to be honest, I can't think of a single sport that has 'meaning in the real world'.

Sport is just an entertainment so based on that, nothing is important. However, the goal was to show Bilbo that we had top notch athletes in many fields areas and no matter what you might think about these sports, most of them are quite practiced around the globe. You know MIles, there are other sports than football that are widely practiced and when you can have top guys in so many disciplines, it should say something I could have add Judo legend Nicolas Gill to the list too.

Stop bashing on Canada people! Canada gave us John Candy, the funniest fatman imo, Pam Anderson, Michael J. Fox, and the great Wayne Gretzky.

Oh yeah they also gave the world Justin Bieber....................oh wait nevermind.

    and you failed miserably!

Having to claim Lennox Lewis is a real lowpoint. A Jamaican man, born in London who won a medal for Canada over 20 years ago and then fought for Britain everafter is your example of a current Canadian great.

Sorry but skaters don't really count. You are part of that Northern icebelt just below the Artic circle along with Iceland, Finland, Northern Russia etc, of course you will have good skaters and skiers etc. I imagine some of the world's greatest sledgers come from Canada too, but that only equates to Brits listing a string of snooker and darts playing greats to highlight our international sporting talent.

What I got from the names put forward so far, was that in your entire country's history you've had one guy who could run pretty fast.

I googled him. Unsurpsingly he was also born elsewhere and only moved to Canada at the age of 13. Oh, and his world record, was not 20, but 15 years ago.

    Impressive.

I take it back, Belguim surpasses Canada. At least they have Brussells.

Not only I didn'T fail but I can mock your lack of argumentative structure without challenge You're a cool dude, Bilbo but you should make some philosophy language classes or something because it's rolled in fallacy.

    1) Lewis defended Canadians colors at the olympics a while ago but when did he retire tell me? Was he a Canadian citizenship yes or not? Yeah he was, he just relocated to England! Also, just for the record, to be Canadian you don't have to be a "native" for the simple and good reason that based on your funny and shallow argumentation, the only one that could be considered canadians would be the natives as all the other are immigrants or the sons of immigrants

    2) Correct me if I am wrong but I didn't mention any skaters in my list, did I?

    3) I gave you a list of top hockey, baseball, basketball, wrestling and judo athletes, this is not "only skaters dude" and even if it was "only skaters", it is debunking your "no good athlete" theory as good skaters/ice hockeyers do count for good athlete no matter what.

IT's too easy discussing with you when you go on a whim without thinking properly, Bilbo.

I have to quote this! From Lord Moran, British high commisioner to Canada in the 1980's. Upon leaving his post in 1984, he wrote this to the then British foreign minister, about his experiences of working in Canada:

'The calibre of Canadian politicians is low. The level of debate in their House of Commons is correspondingly low; the majority of Canadian ministers are unimpressive, and a few we have found frankly bizarre... Canadians are...very sensitive, especially to express or implied British sneers about Canada as 'boring'. One does not encounter here the ferocious competition of talent that takes place in the United Kingdom... Anyone who is even moderately good at what they do...tends to become a national figure....and anyone who stands out at all from the crowd tends to be praised to the skies and given the Order of Canada at once.'
