I'm not really interested in arguing about Canadian athletes, but baseball and basketball are huge sports both in North America and throughout the world. Just because they're not played in the UK/Western Europe doesn't mean they have no relevance.
And to be honest, I can't think of a single sport that has 'meaning in the real world'.
Sport is just an entertainment so based on that, nothing is important. However, the goal was to show Bilbo that we had top notch athletes in many fields areas and no matter what you might think about these sports, most of them are quite practiced around the globe. You know MIles, there are other sports than football that are widely practiced and when you can have top guys in so many disciplines, it should say somethingI could have add Judo legend Nicolas Gill to the list too.

Stop bashing on Canada people! Canada gave us John Candy, the funniest fatman imo, Pam Anderson, Michael J. Fox, and the great Wayne Gretzky.
Oh yeah they also gave the world Justin Bieber....................oh wait nevermind.![]()
and you failed miserably!
Having to claim Lennox Lewis is a real lowpoint. A Jamaican man, born in London who won a medal for Canada over 20 years ago and then fought for Britain everafter is your example of a current Canadian great.
Sorry but skaters don't really count. You are part of that Northern icebelt just below the Artic circle along with Iceland, Finland, Northern Russia etc, of course you will have good skaters and skiers etc. I imagine some of the world's greatest sledgers come from Canada too, but that only equates to Brits listing a string of snooker and darts playing greats to highlight our international sporting talent.
What I got from the names put forward so far, was that in your entire country's history you've had one guy who could run pretty fast.
I googled him. Unsurpsingly he was also born elsewhere and only moved to Canada at the age of 13. Oh, and his world record, was not 20, but 15 years ago.
Impressive.
I take it back, Belguim surpasses Canada. At least they have Brussells.
Not only I didn'T fail but I can mock your lack of argumentative structure without challengeYou're a cool dude, Bilbo but you should make some philosophy language classes or something because it's rolled in fallacy.
1) Lewis defended Canadians colors at the olympics a while ago but when did he retire tell me? Was he a Canadian citizenship yes or not? Yeah he was, he just relocated to England! Also, just for the record, to be Canadian you don't have to be a "native" for the simple and good reason that based on your funny and shallow argumentation, the only one that could be considered canadians would be the natives as all the other are immigrants or the sons of immigrants
2) Correct me if I am wrong but I didn't mention any skaters in my list, did I?
3) I gave you a list of top hockey, baseball, basketball, wrestling and judo athletes, this is not "only skaters dude" and even if it was "only skaters", it is debunking your "no good athlete" theory as good skaters/ice hockeyers do count for good athlete no matter what.
IT's too easy discussing with you when you go on a whim without thinking properly, Bilbo.

I have to quote this! From Lord Moran, British high commisioner to Canada in the 1980's. Upon leaving his post in 1984, he wrote this to the then British foreign minister, about his experiences of working in Canada:
'The calibre of Canadian politicians is low. The level of debate in their House of Commons is correspondingly low; the majority of Canadian ministers are unimpressive, and a few we have found frankly bizarre... Canadians are...very sensitive, especially to express or implied British sneers about Canada as 'boring'. One does not encounter here the ferocious competition of talent that takes place in the United Kingdom... Anyone who is even moderately good at what they do...tends to become a national figure....and anyone who stands out at all from the crowd tends to be praised to the skies and given the Order of Canada at once.'

What I love about you is you have no idea when you are only making things worse.
Neither Lennox Lewis or Donovan Baily stepped foot into your country until they were already 12 and 13 years old respectively. They weren't even born in your country.
Lennox represented you for what, four years maybe from the Olympics of 84 to 88?
1) I am not a patriot at all, In my argumentation, I do not defend the Canadian Flag but a silly comment without substance, you would have said the same thing about the US, Germany or Russia, I would have said the very same thing, just choosing some other examples for the athletes.
2) The guy who states only has an opinion about billions on earth, there is no special substance stating why his opinion would be more worthy than some others. Plus, the guy writing that is obviously a fierce and blind patriot himself, which removes him tons of credit.
3) One can say bad or good words about Canada, this is no paradise, there is a bit of both in there and I am neither proud or shameful to be Canadian, it's just how things went
Again, it was way too easy Mr Baggins, may I suggest you some books about language structure and argumentation to get on your new Amazon Kindle? You're smart enough to understand, you just need to learn to structure your thoughts![]()

1) I didn't even mentioned Donavan Bailey, did I? You really need to read dude and to determine who said what before speaking blindly like it happens to you too often when you're on an idealistic wind up mood.
2) As for Lewis, he was a citizenship and gained it by living a very good part of his life in there, the last time that I look at what was a citizen, people that weren't necessarily born on land could get it, that included kids coming in low age and living their life here. Also, as I said, most Canadians are immigrants or from immigrants parents, Lennox get into that category and mo matter where he moved afterward, he has his Canadian citizenshipA citizenship is WAY more complicated than barely where your Ancesters or where you do come from but I guess that it's another aspect in which your knowledge are deeply questionable.
As for Belgium being better than Canada, I won't answer that "rhetoric" as it is not relevant, I wasn't defending the greatness of Canada, just the nonsense of your poorly articulated opinion.

I can name you three who are world wide known just to start with:
1) Charles Taylor, the most important philosopher on the multiculturalism question and one of the reference when it comes to Hegel, he even won one of the most prestigious award in Germany for his works in Hegel.
2) Will Kimlyka, one of the top philosopher in political philosophy, especially when it touches liberalism and anglo-american philosophy.
3) Jean Grondin: one of the most important philosopher in hermeneutic philosophy, was even the personal biographer of Gadamer, THE hermeneutic thinker
Too easy again and I am probably certain that you've never read seriously lot of philosophy books to start with![]()

lol @ the name Lord Moran.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=moran
But yea, he is probably right for most of it except about our level of actually giving a shit. Most people I know care little about politics or even vote. We know more about american politics because it is on our tv. There is a reason 80% of grade 3 students when I was in grade 3 when asked who our Prime Minister was...answered George Bush. Because our parents were watching it on tv...and well, laughing mostly. It's still like this even well into our teens.
We are a lackadaisical people by nature for most things and have a sense of self- deprecating humor because we are simply nice to others to almost a fault, and just prefer to laugh at ourselves as we understand our subject matter best. We have no inherited need to try and be/remain better then other countries...see my geography lesson post down below. To most of your assertions, I think you'd find a lot of Canadians, myself included would simply answer...'ya, so?" But yet remain nearly always at the top of quality of living indexes. Though most wouldn't know that...because again, it isn't as important for us to be better then others, and certainly by means of denigration. This isn't even a decision we made to be this way...again, just a result of us not caring.
I think the level of trying to antagonize us would go something like this...
"Your political climate is dull and uninspiring!"
"Ya, so?"
"Your people are generally dull and uninspiring!"
"Ya, so?"
"And hockey Sucks!"
"Hey, wait a god damn minute there!"
