Yeah that's what happens when one runs his mouth reckless and than goes out there and decides to just barely fight. No surprise he ended up in the hospital. He took a lot of flush shots.

As for the fight being stopped? It should of been. But the blame falls 100% on the corner. Not the ref. The corner is suppose to know what their fighter can take and come back from. The ref has no business knowing fighters on an individual basis.

Apparently ICU was only precautionary and his CT came back normal. No brain hemorrhage or anything, he's be in the hospital but just for a torn bicep.

Even more reason the blame falls on the corner. What a English ref gonna be knowing about Shannon Briggs?

Side-note: Ref is still a terrible ref. Just wasn't at fault

That's good to hear that it's not serious. I've always maintained that if a guy is receiving too much punishment, it's alright to call it a day. They have a life out there and families to go back home to, that's why I have never blamed someone like Ortiz for refusing to fight on against Maidana. But in this instance, people are right, it was the fault of the corner and some of the blame also falls on the ref.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately, most fighters who do that seem to be stigmatized for the rest of their careers as a result.

Hope he makes a complete recovery and calls it a career. It was a showcase mismatch from the start given his history.

I'm glad that the reports of being intensive care are not true. I read the thread title and got the chills, perhaps that could be changed as it is not quite true. His injuries are awful though and agree with others that it should have been stopped earlier. His corner needs to take responsibility for that, they are supposed to know their fighter.

Briggs deserves a lot of respect for enduring that. The man just wouldn't go down and took it. Briggs should probably retire now, but if he wants to finish his career with a win I wouldn't begrudge him.

On a side note, I think Vitali is the better fighter of the two brothers. There are no real chinks with Vitali, he can take your shots, keep you away with distance, has output, can bust you up, good stamina. He's the allround package. Wlad has improved, but I find him using skills to simply mask the deficits. Vitali doesn't have any of those flaws.

That's fair enough then. Intensive care gives me images of people in comas, so probably just my interpretation gone a bit funny.

Yeah I was abit concerned when I read it but then I read it was because of the fractures whereas I imagined he had gne into a coma or summat.

Latest is Shannon says he is fine. He was cracking jokes on his facebook updates and says he wants to go home but he may need surgery. He seems to be blaming the loss on the injury to the torn muscle her received in round 1 .

Heavyweight title challenger Shannon Briggs is reportedly in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany. Briggs suffered fractures below both eyes as well as a concussion, after taking dozens of hard shots from WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on Saturday night, but is responsive according to RTL. He also suffered a pulled tendon and torn muscle in his right arm.
Briggs was rushed to the hospital after the fight as doctors feared a possible cerebral hemorrhage after observing symptoms associated with neurological disturbances and drowsiness.

Referee Ian John-Lewis, who has received criticism for not stopping the fight, said he was within “one or two shots” of stopping it. “It was a heavyweight world championship,” he said. “These are tough guys and as long as a man fights back, you have to give him a chance.”
The referee and his corner, especially, should hang their heads in shame - there was no reason for him to be beaten so badly he has ended up in hospital. From what I could see, during round ten especially, Briggs WASN'T fighting back and it is the referee's responsibility to look after the boxer's welfare -even more so when his corner aren't doing him justice.

At least it shows Briggs is no quitter.

If Klitchko had gotten injured he would of quit on his stool.

    Gett well soon Shannon.
