Expand the mental space so you can react freely using the stuff you already know off by heart.

Of course it works both ways and is different in sparring, but if your plan isnt working from your knowledge of their reactions and skills; flow free and trust what you know.
I am not sure whether this is true or not -- or perhaps partially true or otherwise useful.

If there is truth in it then we would do well to PRACTICE doing this, at least an interesting percentage of our practice time.

    Several reasons:

    1. We are unlikely to do in competition what we don't practice
    2. If it's worth doing it is worth perfecting with practice

BTW, I tend to think it is worth doing and do spend some time trying to improve this skill....

Yes exactly...then once you've got it; don't get caught over thinking it is my point.

People who are totally 'in the zone' aren't thinking about it any longer, they are totally in the zone of doing in auto pilot.

You get that eventually from the hard work and procedure that you just mentioned.

    I can explain it.
But I cant understand it for you.

I agree too . Everything is only partly true.

Depends on our point of view.

One thing for some one, another thing for others and all things wont work all the time.
