I know I'm late getting back on this thread, but here's my take on the whole making fun of Roach thing & why it doesn't bug me.
They were taking the piss. Was it cruel? Yeah definitely. Was it funny? Nah, not really. But did it actually offend me as someone with family members with the disease? No.
The reason why is that I've seen jokes about disability before & laughed (e.g. Steven Hawking jokes). Just because Roach is in boxing & I dislike both Margs & Rios does that mean I should change my position. I felt the same on the whole PBF 'race rant' incident. As they said on the Ring Theory podcast, I thought it was poorly-judged ethnic humour by a guy with all the comic ability of a foot stool, but not really racist. The same with Margarito & Rios, it was pisstaking out of a guy by people who just ain't funny, but does that mean I should get all worked up when on the same night I'm laughing at Steve Coogan's Hawking impression?
My personal take on these things is that if you get offended by these and then laugh at other race jokes or about disability, then you need to ask yourself why that is. An excellent example given in regard to the Mayweather one was that how many people have made jokes about Arreola & coronas & burritos. If this stuff, really ask yourself what works you up so much about it & be honest with yourself if no one else.
For the record, I'm not saying that what either Floyd or Margarito did was acceptable or funny, they're both dickheads. I'm just pointing out why it didn't offend me as I mentioned on my post on the first page.
