Because Hopkins was trying to make money, not friends.... Can you Imagine how big a fight between one of the Klitchkos vs Mike Tyson would have been if Mike were still a game fighter? I know boxing fans will see two good fighters, but America will see a big Clark Kent White Boy vs a thuggish, bully, "black guy". (saying black for respect for the forum). But if it were an american white vs a European it would have been chants for "USA" all night. I mean several times Lampley on the air has called American Born citizens with Mexican heritage.. Mexican.

A lot of people, like Hopkins still believes in the Holmes-Cooney theory of a serious contender non-black vs a black will generate more money. That's why floyd was saying if he were white he'd make more money. Which is true. Because there are more whites in America, America was built on racism, and is held up by that same diseased backbone. So unless one grew up outside of the states I don't see why anyone thinks what Hopkins is doing is any different than HBO and promoters constantly putting the Mexican Fighters against Puerto Rican fighters. Or True Mexican fighters (the ones that only speak spanish) vs the American born English Speaking Mexican fighters. You see why so many people jumped on PACMAN as the MEXICAN ASSASSIN. The same way Roger Mayweather made his name because he was beating the Mexican fighters back then.

Anyone trying to deny that race plays into marketing certain fights, I admire and envy your naivety, but I grew up in the states and racism is clear and routine as breathing.

I think you are mistaking prejudice with racism.

Everyone is prejudice, meaning they like one thing or their own race better than another.

Racism is hatred and really not as common.

But surely the cross town rivalry isn't prominent in boxing, so it's cross race or nationality for promoting fights.

When you're prejudice against another race what's that called?

    Prejudice is preference.

    Racism is hatred.

HUGE difference. Everyone is prejudice, in race, in food, in culture.

Doesn't mean everyone is racist, and hates all other things outside of their preference.

A prejudice is a prejudgment: i.e. an assumption made about someone or something before having adequate knowledge to be able to do so with guaranteed accuracy. The word prejudice is most commonly used to refer to a preconceived judgment toward a people or a person because of race, social class, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. It also means beliefs without knowledge of the facts[1] and may include "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence.

Racism is the belief that the genetic factors which constitute race are a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.[1] Racism's effects are called "racial discrimination." In the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits, or receive preferential treatment.
Racial discrimination typically points out taxonomic differences between different groups of people, although anyone may be discriminated against on an ethnic or cultural basis, independently of their somatic differences. According to the United Nations conventions, there is no distinction between the term racial discrimination and ethnicity discrimination.
There is some evidence that the meaning of the term has changed over time, and that earlier definitions of racism involved the simple belief that human populations are divided into separate races.[2] Many biologists, anthropologists, and sociologists reject this taxonomy in favor of more specific and/or empirically verifiable criteria, such as geography, ethnicity, or a history of endogamy.[3]

    I hate okra.

What does that make me?... a racist or prejudice?

LOL... I love this. The way you posted the breakdowns. I was speaking in general context that most of the people who they are trying to sell fights to can't and don't make that distinction. I mean favoring one because of prejudice one thing, but when on the night of those fight racial fights...every slur in the world is used. Then clearly it has grown into something else.

Take Holmes-Cooney for example. The great white hope some called it. Snipers on the buildings during the fight because white supremacist were talking of shooting Holmes. In the general public those words are interchangeable.

luvfightgame is 100% right. Prejudice gets confused with racism, especially on this site, all the time. There are lots of people on here that show a blatant prejudice against British fighters but do not come across as racist.

Which only makes the point I was making valid. Most people don't distinguish the two and use them interchangeably.

Right.. but they are using the term incorrectly.

If I say I hate all white fighters and would never cheer for them. That means i'm a racist.

If I say I hate all British fighters and would never cheer for them. That means i'm prejudice towards Brits, because obviously Britsh fighters encompass all different ethnicities.

Well British isn't a race, I mean Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, and Derek Chisora are hardly of the same race but all are British.
