Pacquiao / Martinez
Personally, I don't think Pacquiao needs to fight anymore. I had the thought that maybe he goes on because he feels God is the one leading him to do it for the benefit of people. (Just a thought)
I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about Pacquiao going for a 9th title now. If this were Williams with the KO I don't think there would be much consideration. The more I read comments on this board, the more I think as the hope of a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight dies, the more this fight will come to fruition. I'm sure Arum is in denial that it can actually happen, while the giddiness becomes absolutely overwhelming for him.
This match-up can take a live of it's own, once the main stream media gets a hold of it. Arum and HBO won't even have to promote it aside from making the announcements of course. Common people don't understand what a massive difference there is in weight class. I can see news organizations and talk show hosts having guest boxing historians and analysis on their shows just to explain how boxing works. Kellerman getting Martinez to say 156lbs blew the hinges off the door.
after last night IMO Martinez would have sparked Margarito in the opening round or just about as brutally as he KO'd Williams, and if Pacquiao wants to fight him it should be at Middleweight and at the 160 lb limit, no catchweight, i'm saying this cause Pacquiao has no business looking up that high, he has plenty of competition at 154, he could fight Angulo (who IMO is a tougher challenge than Margarito), Kirkland, etc.
here is my take on how far up can pacquiao go:
Jr. WELTERWEIGHTS
timothy bradley - i would actually give this guy a good shot of beating pacquiao. this guy is slick, fast as hell, a good counterpuncher but most important, he's in his physical prime.
amir khan - aside from his questionable chin, this guy would match pacquiao speed wise, he's got the height, reach and he hasn't hit his physical prime yet.
devon alexander - another fast fighter with good skills. i still don't think he can beat pacquiao but he would make it interesting while it lasted.
joan guzman - yeah, he's getting up there in age but he's still fighting in his prime because of his inactivity. this guy would pose major problems for pacquiao.
andriy kotelnik - power wise he doesn't pose a threat to pacquiao but he is a very crafty boxer with good counterpunching skills and we all know that one thing is pacquiao's achilles heel.
tim coleman - now before anyone starts calling me crazy, consider that he's a very underrated boxer with great skills and he's also a very good counterpuncher with great reflexes. i don't think coleman can beat pacquiao but he would give him a great fight.
WELTERWEIGHTS
this is a very weak division aside from mayweather jr. and andre berto.
mayweather jr. - if this fight ever happens, i see mayweather jr. frustrating pacquiao to no end. i mean, it's very unlikely pacquiao will ever get in a clean shot at him because pacquiao's going to be worried about getting countered all night long. mayweather jr. by wide UD.
andre berto - nobody really knows how good berto could be but i do know that he's got great power with impressive handspeed. besides, pacquiao is so easy to hit. i mean, if margarito was able to touch him up, what more can a fast fighter with great reflexes and knockout power do to him.
Jr. MIDDLEWEIGHTS
afredo angulo - yeah, pacquiao might have the speed advantage over this guy but this guy is faster than margarito, is almost as tall, has a better chin and hit a hell of a whole lot harder. pacquiao would get an early lead but in the middle of the fight, angulo would catch pacquiao and knock him out.
sergio mora - even though mora doesn't have any power, he's still a very good boxer with good height and good speed. this would be a tossup fight.
sergei dzinziruk - don't know much about this guy but do know that he's undefeated at 30-0 and is an impressive boxer. not to mention the height/weight advantage he would have over pacquiao.
MIDDLEWEIGHTS
sergio martinez - martinez absolutely destroys the much smaller pacquiao. he's just too damned big, and hits hard as well. this fight will never happen because roach would never let it happen. martinez by KO.
paul williams - don't let that KO loss full anybody. in boxing, on any given night, anybody can get KO'd. williams would tower over pacquiao and probably KO him or win a very wide UD.
dmitry pirog - forget it! pirog is too big, he's very technical, can hit hard, is much taller than pacquiao and KO pacquiao before five rounds at most.
david lemieux - don't laugh. if lemieux tags pacquiao it'll be over quick. this guy, although not very experienced would be too strong for the much smaller pacquiao. lemieux by KO.
now before everybody starts calling me a racist because i think most of these guys would beat pacquiao, consider this:
pacquiao's defense still sucks. i mean, he's wide open and if a slow as hell margarito was able to tag him a few times, he would be in a lot of danger fighting the above mentioned fighters.
notice that none of these guys are slow or over the hill! margarito was tailor made for pacquiao because of his extreme slowness. also notice that these fighters are currently on the upswing or in their physical primes.
in closing, although pacquiao has impressive wins over much slower, over the hill, and weight drained fighters, he'd find it difficult to defeat any of these guys because of his piss poor defense. sure he can go in and out but he still leaves himself wide open almost every time.
sometimes, things look better than what they are!!!
Although maybe even slightly inhumane, the thought of a Martinez or Pirog fight makes me excited.
Such a huge advantage, massive, strong and powerful. But I think it is the ultimate way to find out exactly how good Pacman is.
Nothing surprises me anymore with him, so even him winning wouldn't be such a strange thing to think. If he did, he would without doubt be up there with the very best ever.
pacquiao would get destroyed by these two middleweights. if we want to find out how good pacquiao really is, then we need to see him fight fighters in their primes. enough with this catchweight bullshit. let's see how pacquiao fights against guys like timothy bradley, andre berto, amir khan, or if he thinks he can beat guys like alfredo angulo or sergio mora, go for it! but enough with fighting these slow ass guys.
He'll never fight Khan, same camp and he just wouldn't fancy it. Not out of fear of losing to him, just he knows all about him.
I thought Marg is going to destroy PAC, then now all of a sudden Marg is a slow as hell garbagePac is never going to get any credit. I'd rather see PAC retire.

pavlik,
it is what it is. margarito IS slow as hell. roach is no fool, he knows how to cherry pick pacquiao's opponents. what pacquiao has done is incredible but that doesn't mean i'm going to anoint him the GOAT like some people are! and how much credit shall we give pacquiao in order to appease you or his fans? what do you want us to do, go gaga over him like his pactards?
You have apoint MIL but I don't consider Bradley, Alexander more of a threat to PAC than Margarito. Marg hits harder and takes a punch better than this two IMO.
At this point in PAC's career if PAC takes on a guy his size I'm pretty sure PAC takes them out. Like what Emanuel Steward said PAC in reality is a lightweight/or junior welt 138-139lbs at best, him taking out these bigger guys is a FEAT by itself. This being said I dont consider PAC as the GOAT. Maybe in the top 15 ATG. It will take a bigger man to beat PAC at this point.

The astonishing thing is Margarito fought both Martinez and Williams but his face was not busted up like what PAC did to him.![]()
