I see Khan outboxing Maidana's ears off. But can he do it through 12 rounds without getting caught with a big wallop? That is the big question. Maidana is one tough motherf - he will not be easy to break down, and he's not just a typical brawler, he's got boxing skills too.

Yes imo, the fight is 50/50.

Khon will never be in a 50/50 fight, he will out speed Maidana to a lop sided UD or stop him after 7 or 8 rounds just depends how much Madaina can take, his next fight will probably be an over the hill Jmm Marques @ 140 and he will then be a legend beater LOL.

The same JMM who has just beaten the living piss out of one of the best fighters at 135, before stopping him? The same JMM who holds stoppage wins over Casamayor and Juan Diaz at 135?

I can't believe so many people have decided JMM can't compete at 140

I was going to come in here to post the same thing. I'd have it at least 70-30 in Khan's favour. I think he's going to dominate Maidana. I honestly think a guy like Ortiz who can punch and box is a much bigger threat to Khan than a one-dimensional slugger like Maidana.

Khan in theory should be able to outbox and beat maidana pretty easy but i thought the same about ortiz. The only hype worse than khans is that of khan and his team trying to hype maidana as some great fighter and obstacle. I don't dislike khan but man from getting laid out five minutes ago by a nobody to the so so so tired and old "i can beat floyd too where do i grab a number and stand in line ? " doesn't make sense to me. Khan has won and been building himself back up just as he should but how people have him rated so high i don't get. But loosing has done nothing but good for margarito so who knows. Maybe a loss to maidana gets him a title shot. Would make no sense in mma but perfect sense in boxing.....

To be fair when Khan says anything about Mayweather or Pacquiao it's in direct response to a question. It's not like he's organised a press conference to tell the world he can beat them both on the same night. I think people forget that and then take his answer out on context.

I don't really like Khan, seems like a complete dick to me, though I respect that he's got some silks in the ring. I give him credit for fighting a puncher and think he wins a very wide UD. He could get stopped if he gets sloppy, he could stop Maidana early who can be wild leaving himself wide open for Khan's quicker, straighter shots, or he could stop him late through accumulation. He's stepping up the competition and is in with a very dangerous opponent, though I wouldn't say its 50/50 as Khan is clearly a superior boxer and in theory shouldn't have problems winning this one. Aside from landing big at some point Maidana won't win, he isn't outboxing him, whereas Khan has the tools to beat Maidana in any number of ways.

Interesting how not so long ago many thought this fight vs Maidana would be suicide for Khan.

Freddy Roach, like him or not, has been an important part of Khan's improvement. I can see Khan avoiding exchanges with a puncher like Maidana and winning on points. Khan has reach, speed, and overall improved boxing skills.

    Khan by desicion .

Casamayor who was old and Diaz who aint no better than Paulie, JMM was great but is not any more in his prime Fact, Khon is bigger, faster, freasher and Coach Roach knows when the cherrys ripe to pluck, the Marques bit was Ironic btw.

    I love Hindsight.

All 3 were highly rated top 3-5 fighters at lightweight. Marquez stopped them all. He doesn't have to be in his prime to beat Khan. He would be Khan's best opponent by a country mile.

Couldn't make it up. Knocks the top contenders out at light weight, but has no chance against a guy you refer to as Khon (presumably because you don't rate him) at light-welter weight. I think i need to sit down.

I think Maidana has been more overrated. People were touting the guy like he would destroy Khan and it would be suicide for Khan to fight him. But from what I see of him, I see a limited guy with a lot of heart and power. I expect Khan to completely dominate him and possibly stop him. The way he looked in his last fight, I don't see why Khan wouldn't beat him one sidedly. He has an average chin as well, say what you will about Khan's chin but he will reach Maidana's first.

What this fight will be, is a good test of Khan's boxing skill to see where he is at. if Maidana beats him, he doesn't deserve his championship, because of Maidana, bradley, Khan and Alexander, Maidana is the most limited.

Battle between 2 of the most overrated fighters in the division. Winner fights Ortiz for Over rated champ of 140.

As far as I know Maidana is the one who's showing up as the underdog in the eyes of many. He's alright to me. He has two ko wins over top 140 pound prospects Victor ortiz and Victor cayo and just 1 loss that was controversial anyway to kotelnik so how can maidana be overrated? He's virtually undefeated.

Ring Mag has him at #4 JrWW... behind Bradley, Khan, and Alexander. So who would you rather take his place at #4?... Kotelnik, Urango, Maliggnagi, Peterson?

    C'mon now dude.

Well to be honest, beating the top guys at 1 division doesn't mean the fighter will be a force at another higher division. Boxing history is littered with numerous examples. For example Oscar was very good at 154 but when he moved up to 160 he struggled mightily against Sturm and even got knockout by Hopkins, another example is Darchniyan was very good at 115 but looked like crap at 118 or Hatton was very good at 140 but struggle pretty much at 147. So it's not a given that JMM will be able to compete or be a dominant force at 140 just because he was very good at 135, and let's not forget he is 37.

Good post. And that final part is perhaps the most significant.

We saw with Campbell that age and weight gain don't neccessarily go hand in hand. Of course, Marquez is a better fighter than Campbell, but we should never underestimate how tough it is for an old smaller man to jump up in weight. Having this kind of shelf life at LW is remarkable enough on its own. Plus someone like Khan has all those natural size advantages to boot.
