Looks great though. I'll make my mates watch it when it comes out on DVD and when they ask me who he was, I'll show em the Augustus fight

Then I'll show em the Gatti fight
Then I'll show em the Gatti fight
Then I'll show em the Gatti fight
Just a guess, but maybe Vince Phillips?

I'll go see it, looks like it'll be good. Anyone know why it misses the Gatti trilogy?

I'm guessing that was in reference to the Zab Judah fight.

I'm going to go see it when it comes out for sure. But it is BS they left out Gatti and are playing up some WBU garbage title. Thats a fuckin joke. Ward fought for the World Title ONCE. Against Vince Philips and lost via tko from a cut.

I heard that all the punches are real, no fake pulling like in other movies. Looking forward to seeing it.

Actually glad they 'dumbed' it down and didn't get stuck on Gatti trilogy. Like most flicks certainly not going for historical ring accuracy but more so what its lead actor can deliver, drama and sub plots. Gatti was larger then life and in way Ward earned right to be seperated from it in those battles. He essentially had two seperate boxing careers entirely did Ward. From obscure co feature stepping stone journey man on ESPN to break out high calibur preformer. In hindsight he had zero business losing to a Meyers, Martin etc. Gatti fights made him 'known'...but they didnt make him the fighter he was. Ward was one of the better body punchers over the last number of years. The WBU trinket is crap, and frankly he was screwed in fight with Phillips, Leija opted out and limped into Kostya fight too.

RE; Whay are they not culminating this movie with the Gatti fight(s)

How could they ever do justice to those fights on film?

With all due respect to this project, they do not touch on the Gatti trilogy and without that trilogy i don't see the point of the movie? Ward was no legitimate world title holder and is best known world wide for his classic fights with Gatti, why would you not include one of the greatest fight trilogies of all time in your movie?

I don't think a fictional movie about the Gatti - Ward trilogy would have much mainstream appeal. A hard-luck story about a fighter who overcomes all kind of personal and professional adversity to become a success 'champion' is much more interesting IMO.

Well the only other fight of significance was the Augustus/Burton fight ? That was a helluva fight though.

I agree with you, i just feel that the hard luck story had an incredible ending with Ward's 3 fights with Gatti that has established Ward's name in boxing legend, something he was unable to do as a champion. Surely they could have given the trilogy 10 minutes at the end?
