Im certainly with you on that. I cant name a fighter in my recent history that got sparked lights out and then picked himself up and resumed superstardom?
Is that better than say getting pummeled like Lacy did for 12 rounds against Calzaghe or is it just as devestating mentally?
Amir Khan didn't rely on his chin as much as Paul Williams relied on his. Amir was always a stick and move fighter and he will remain so if he is going to be successful. Paul Williams was a guy who didn't care about defense, he just went in face first and threw as many punches per round as he could....it don't pay to be a pressure fighter with no chin.
Lennox Lewis came back, but then again he wasn't sparked out COLD like Williams was...Duran had some success after the Hearns KO....but there is a huge possibility that he's never the same fighter.
I just think Paul is a big guy, he's tall and lanky, why not use a more traditional game planIt would only benefit him.
I agree he should fight tall and utilize that wingspan of his, I believe its comparable to Wlads. It would behoove him to jab and move, he's good on his feet and has good rythm.
I laugh becuase he was in medium range with martinez and he got hit by a punch that Sergio wasnt even looking where he was throwing but none the less he got beat to the punch.. Kinda like a homerun hitter with a long swing that got a fastball blown by him
Yeah but I don't care how iron chinned you are, if you don't defend yourself and leave yourself as open to shots as Williams does, chances are that will happen to you. He needs to work on his defence big time if he wants to make it back to superstardom. He should drop down to 154 and build his confidence back up.
This is a GROSS mismatch, Andy is a good guy and all but he is really just a harder hitting more defensive John Duddy IMO....Sergio has a great chin and has stood up to fighters more skilled then Lee and harder hitting...His only Stoppage loss is to a young Margarito, Even if Lee did win he would not be able to hold the belt very long....Paul Williams will be looking for him, Sturm would outbox him on points easily and AA will be returning to MW and he would look for Lee ASAP and it is a shootout I can not imaging Lee winning.....
Good kid but not world class yet....His power is what seems to be mentioned every time Lee is discussed but review who he has stopped and it makes you question exactly how hard he does hit
Daxx how long do you give Sergio against AA at Middle? I think Sergio showboating with his hands at his waist gets him splattered. AA will have the high guard and let Sergio peck away cause lets face it he will have a size advantage and I think Arthur exploding in spurts will have Sergio on his back foot until he gets caught. I'll give him 7-8 rounds until he's stopped
I have to say JT a year ago I might nhave given little chance and agreed with you 100%, but for some reason Sergio makes that style work for him, I think it is crazy to fight that way even against guys you know you can outclass but hey I can't give too much criticism to a guy that has been a 2 division title holder and did to Williams and Pavlik he did over the last year...
But as for AA at one time i would have thought he would beat Martinez down with that style but after the S6 and watching how he deals with slick boxers hard to favor him over Martinez since slick boxing is what he is all about...Do I think he would stop AA at MW no way at MW AA was a whole different animal then at b168...AA is a small MW but the 168 mnjust too much for him at this stage...I do think he would outbox him...Martinez is no fool he would not get into a situation where would have to trade with AA....At least I hope not
Mayorga ko's Martinez in 2 if Sergio has the balls to fight him.
Let me just say this about Sergio Martinez.
I would NEVER bet money against Mayweather; but if Martinez fought him my money would be on him...
