Sergio Martinez-Sebastian Zbik is Likely For March, HBO - Boxing News
According to adviser Sampson Lewkowicz, WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs) will likely make a return to the ring on March 12 against Germany's interim-champion, Sebastian Zbik (39-2, 27 KOs). Martinez would face Zbik before pursuing a fall HBO pay per view televised match against Puerto Rico's WBA junior middleweight titlist Miguel Cotto.
On Monday, however, Cotto's legal adviser, Gabriel Penagaricano, disclosed that his client would return to the ring on the same date as Martinez, March 12, against either unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KOs) of Glendale, Calif., New Jersey's Pawel Wolak (28-1, 18 KOs), Mexico's Rigoburto Alvarez (26-2, 19 KOs), or, IBF junior middleweight king Cornelius Bundrage (30-4, 18 KOs).
There is no confirmation on whether or not HBO is planning to combine both fights on a televised doubleheader - or if one of the proposed bouts is going to take place outside of the cable giant's network. Martinez's promoter, Lou DiBella, insists that his boxer's next fight will be carried by HBO.
"Please Martinez, don't take a tune up fight. A fight just to keep the middleweight title. Although Zbik might not be a push over. Here's what you should do. If you can't get Pacman or Cotto now, set yourself up for your next fight. Come back down to 154. Either challenge Pacman for his title or force the WBC to vacant the title so you can fight for it. Saul Alvarez and Augulo will be formable opponents and rank 1 and 2 by the WBC(I believe). K9 and Sergeii Dzinziruk are title holder that you can make a statement on. Don't get me wrong, you better be in shape for any of them. But I believe they are not on your level when you are focus and determine. BTW, if Cotto fight Vanes Martirosyan, you will never fight Cotto."
Some1 send this letter to Martinez
Zbik is a solid technical boxer,he uses his jab alot and got a decent defense, but can't punch and had condition problems(especially later in the fight) in the past...I doubt he will be a walk through,he will probably look better than Pavlik did against Martinez, but still I can't see Zbik win more than 4-5 rnds against Martinez...
BTW the record of Zbik is 30-0,10 KO...

Based on his last couple of fights I would say yeah it's very much a walk in the park for Martinez. It's not that Zbik is bad. He's just way out of his league. His record looks pretty. But unless your knowledgeable in obscure European fighters you ain't recognizing any of the names of his resume
He's pretty good but he's nothing Martinez shouldn't be able to handle. He'll probably last the distance. As Johnny mentioned he's a good technical boxer...faded a bit down the stretch against Spada in their first meeting...but I've read he was either sick or injured during that training camp. Most fighters these days make that excuse when they fight like shit...so who knows. He did beat Spada clearly in the rematch. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
As far as his record is concerned...he easily stopped that Spanish fella Varon, who took Macklin the distance Saturday and by all accounts made Macklin look like shit. And beat Spada & Della Rosa, two short, rugged, pressure fighters from Italy. To be honest, I only know of Spada & Della Rosa from their fights with ZbikSo who knows how good they'll turn out to be?
Cotto would beat Vanes Matriosyan, no doubt.
Sergio Martinez vs Andy Lee Close, HBO Rejects Zbik - Boxing News
According to Emanuel Steward, manager and trainer of southpaw middleweight contender Andy Lee of Detroit, a deal is very close for a fight with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez for March 12 on HBO. Earlier this week, Sampson Lewkowicz, the adviser of Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs), said his boxer was going to honor his mandatory obligation against interim-champion Sebastian Zbik. The fight fell apart after HBO rejected Zbik as an opponent.
"It looks like Andy is the leading person to get it, and March 12 is the day that I was told. Basically, this came from Lou DiBella," said Steward. "I did not talk directly with Lou DiBella, but I have a partner with me, you know, and he told me. Nothing is firmed up, and we have to get all of the paper work done, but it looks good and it looks like it's all going to work out."
What's this I hear about a Martinez Pac-Man fight? I thought light-middleweight was as high as he would go? Unless Martinez is gonna drop some? Anybody else hear this?
Zbik is out of his league. Lee is in way over his head. I think Martinez can beat both the same night
I thought Lee had a chance to be somebody in the division...his defense is piss poor, but he still puts his punches together well and he could be tough for Sergio as long as he doesn't catch one of those punches that Paul Williams got dropped with.
I want Lee to do well, but I just haven't seen him progress very much
I think Vanes is really overrated, but I could be mistaken. Cotto should bust him up good and then its Cotto-Chavez Jr.
