It's cool in the comic every person drawn into the crowd is someone famous. They were trying to draw some super villain to it so they could defeat him. Ali was just helping Superman out.

the winner was scheduled to fight Chuck Norris but he was contracted to a different TV company and wasn't the mandatory. Fight never happened
Chuck Norris had to defend against Conrad Bain from Diffr'nt Strokes instead

few years ago someone posted the whole comic in PDF format... they went off to some planet to take part in the best fighter in universe this planet took away all the super power, Ali couldn't fight for some reason ((broken hand, steroids, wanted 60% of the purse, was in jail etc)) or something like that so superman stepped in and won the final in a Rocky style matchup
