An effective self promoter doesn't say an opponent isn't worth fighting but will fight him anyway for the fans.

He's made himself tens of millions of dollars by fighting mediocre opposition and has become one of the most popular, infamous, and discussed fighters in the world in the process. I'd say he's an exceptional promoter.

Shows the lack of value in the dollar if he's made "tens of millions" (though I would love someone to do the maths, work out the actual cut of Sky etcs that he gets), popular? He seems to be like marmite in that respect. Discussed doesn't always mean a good thing..

As for the second part, in boxing being popular is always a good thing. In a sense, the whole sport is one giant and corrupt popularity contest.

Well, I have no idea what the specific amount of money he has made is, but I'm certain that it is well over $10 million dollars at this point. The actual amount is moot, his ability to self-promote has made him a shit-ton of money and made him one of the most high-profile figures in the sport, even though he hasn't had a truly significant victory at HW.

As for his popularity, he's hugely popular in the UK and infamous pretty much everywhere else. Boxers don't have to be universally loved to be successful, just look at Floyd Mayweather Jr.
