Its a generalisation of all fighters. Once a fighter has made himself wealthy enough to not have work again and has tried but failed against the best, they realise deep down they have tried and failed and now at this point its all about making the most money you can.
Look at Hatton, he lost 2 fights to 2 better fighters and realised he had money and that he wasnt going any further career wise so has retired rather than fight on against some lower level belt holder. Arum is milking Cotto at this point.
Cotto will be thinking "Mayorga will put up a bit of a fight for a few rounds and then il start taking over" but I guarantee you hes putting at the back of his mind the strength of the shots that will be hitting him from all angles and the fact that the past 8 months Mayorga has been more active than him. He wont be thinking of the uppercut that nearly ripped Oscars head off, or the fact Mayorga had Shane more worried about his power than Cottos or Margaritos and how Mayorga took better shots to the chin for longer than Margarito could. Cotto is at the point of his career that he is relying on Arum and Steward to tell him what to do, rather than knowing, he is now just doing a job, I dont think he loves boxing at this point. Whereas Mayorga still believes at this point that he has the power to hurt any one, especially 2 smaller fighters like Cotto and Pacquiao. He would be the hardest puncher either has faced. A fighter like Mayorga will always be dangerous because he knows hes strong, hits hard and has a good chin.
