the 1 inch punch or the finger thrust has been tested in the tv show sports science. it generated very little power.

i got things messed up i think it was on mythbusters. but sports science did measured various types of punches though.
going back to the 1 inch punch, it looked really impressive if you see it for the first time. but him standing straight up plus messing with his brain by putting a chair behind him was actually the major reason why it looked like a strong punch.
you guys know how they sell powerbands? its pretty much the same trick.
i do know bruce trains hard and perfected his martial art cause he wants to be the best. no doubt about that but the 1 inch punch is just an illusion.
it doesn't matter, if I was to stand next to my bed (with both of my legs touching it) and get my grandma or my little sister to stand in anything even CLOSE to a boxing stance with their hand an inch away from me...
All they would have to do is quickly lean the weight of their upper body an inch or two past my chest and I would trip on to the bed.
PARTY TRICK

Finger strike is where it was all born from. Its utterly Useless in gloves and is used more to get someone off your ass if they are hanging off you. If used as an open palm straight into the face is actually better than the fist in my mind for that range anyway, but used with the right technique in the exact right moment as the original toe to fingers power as you move: then your eyes will be hanging off my fingers or your aorta blood flow will be mixing with your jugular blood flow or your exphixoid will will be piercing your lower heart chamber. There's a few applications and your not going to use them unless outnumbered or going for total vengeance and jail term.
Bruce Lee invented Jeet Kune do as an extension and a open path to lead on from the stilted traditional wing chun, there are Jeet kune do practitoners in MMA and they do very well. Bruce got picked on in Hong Kong when going back there because of his acting roll in the green man etc. He then went to Yip Man with William Cheung to learn Wing chun to protect himself on the streets when in Hong Kong. Which they both had to do back then.
They are both un liked in traditional Wing chun circles because of their adaptions to the tradition.
well then if you are going to kill someone by hitting then in the adams apple neck thyroid sternum or wherever pressure points. then do it with a karate chop or a proper punch. i mean it will definitely generate more power and most likely will kill your opponent quickly.
again i respect bruce lee's skills but the 1 inch punch is just an illusion.

It is, its a push with twist on the end. Im just saying where its from.
There are some men (not many these days who practiced iron palm they could push finger tips through some very tough objects. It (Iron palm training) used to go hand in hand with the Bill gee form. Im just sharing where he got the idea from.
Ive seen a mans face split wide open like a knife cut from a short snap from an iron palm trainee. So I view some of these posts as uneducated.

I can't believe this thread has gone on for this many pages!! The final answer, CHUCK NORRIS! The man whose tears could cure cancer. The only thing is, Chuck NEVER CRIES!
its not the punch itself its how the guy being punched was made to stand up straight with a chair behind him supposedly to catch his fall when in fact its there to make your brain think not to move the leg to keep balance cause itll hit the chair behind him.
the iron palm demo wherein the guy breaks a brick in half has trickery involved too. notice how loud and sharp the sound is everytime he hits the brick? thats cause he uses his other hand to slightly lift one side of the brick a few mm off the floor.energy is then more focused and does not transfer easily to the floor. also, notice at the point where he actually breaks the brick the other half which he is holding lifts upward. again thats due to him lifting the brick a few mm off the ground. the floor is obviously wide and solid and will pretty much absorb all of the energy. so if the brick is laid flat on it without anyone holding the brick it wont make that sharp sound instead it will make a thud sound.
bricks has very good compression strength but is very brittle. you can also put it in the oven to remove all of the trapped moisture, it will then make it more brittle.
so whats next? shaolin monks who can generate heat on their palms enough to create steam when they touch a damp towel? or kung fu masters who claim they can control a mans movement even without touching them?
