    Default HBO bias annoys me

Kellerman and Jones Jr annoyed me a bit yesterday, both exclaiming that Donaire is one of the top 2-4 fighters in the world without question and talking about him as if they have always been championing him from the beginning.

I'm not arguing their assessment, but rather the fact that they have only started mentioning him now that he is on HBO.

They did it with Martinez as well. Kellerman, Lampley et al had never once mentioned the guy until he beat up Bunema on HBO and all of a sudden he was the fighter they had long been championing since the beginning of his career and who was now an elite fighter, just as he joins HBO.

Meanwhile, fighters on Showtime like Andrew Ward and Carl Froch get ignored by them.

They do have a very HBO-centric approach to boxing I think.

If Ward ever moves to HBO for certain they will be describing him as one of the biggest talents in boxing and the best all American fighter right now.

Yeah I get what your saying. But it's got to be expected that their gonna blow the trumpet of the fighters that are fighting on their network. I expect it more from kellerman than jones tho.

I always find Max annoying and sometimes Roy. They speak their mind freely and I dont always agree with them. I dont think Roy would hype up a fighter to benefit HBO. I also dont think Max would because he is such a fanboy of the sport. I actually thought they gave both Nonito and Montiel the proper respect before and after the fight. I think it was only Roy who claimed to follow Nonitos career early and knew he would be a top p4p fighter.

In my experience Jones always tends to say silly things. Look at the first Hopkins Taylor fight. He had Hopkins losing like the first 8 rounds, and then said he should have won. Don't know how he scored that in his head...

It's to be expected but I get where you're coming from. Sky do similar crap, especially when ITV where involved with boxing.

Yeah but at least they do mention fighters from other networks.

HBO weren't even allowed to mention the Super Six tournament by name. Yesterday they didn't mention the current bantamweight tourney going on with the best of the rest of the fighters in that division as it's also on Showtime.

    It annoys me.

Also whilst I'm ranting. Steve Bunce. Is there a bigger idiot? He was saying that the reason Wlad postponed the Chisora fight is because he looked in Derek's eyes and became fearful. wtf? This is the man who said (and it pissed me off so much at the time I created a thread about it) that K9 Bundrage was a joke mandatory and that Jamie Moore should have got the title shot and that Moore would easily beat K9 within 2 or 3 rounds. I posted a thread to say K9 was not a bum and would beat Moore, and it was disrespectful of Bunce to slate K9 the way he did. Then Moore goes and gets knocked out two fights in a row, and K9 becomes a world champ, which proves just what a clueless fat oath Bunce is.

I don't know how he can be so close to the sport, and yet still hold the opinions he does. It's baffling.

I have heard HBO mention the Super Six by name. They did before Bute's fight with Miranda I think. I have deffo heard Kellerman mention it.

As for Bunce, I think I joined in on that thread. Did you ever see the Boxing Hour where he said (and this was after Enzo beat Matthew Ellis) that Maccarinelli was the man to beat at Cruiserweight and the likes of Cunningham, Huck, Banks & Adamek wouldn't stand a chance as Enzo was going to clean up the division. Bare in mind this was when Adamek was king at Cruiser.

Jim Watt is an idiot at times too. Ever notice how he adjusts his fight card to fall in line. If the bookies have it close, and he has it wide, he'll throw in a few even rounds and gift rounds on his scorecard to fall in line. He does it when they cover the same show as HBO too. Johnny Nelson says some stupid things too. Thank god Sky brought in Barry McGuigan!

.. And that's why Buffer has the best job on earth: Can't compromise him with analyses as he's doing none, doesn't have to trumpet nobody to please anyone, he's well paid, has all expenses included and sees the best shows and he can date cannon chicks half his age. I want his job, really.

It's the same with every network.

Premier Sports were labelling Tyson Fury as a future World Champion.

Sky Sports talk up their own fighters. They're never going to go out of their way to talk up the credentials of a fighter who has a deal with a rival network.

Can see why it annoys you though. It segments the sport. Showtime and HBO is turning into Raw vs Smackdown

.....Every now and then Teddy has a favorite in there. They do a good job though.

HBO have been known to turn their backs on guys who they once applauded too....look at how they've treated Mayweather for example, Roy Jones Jr., etc.

perfect example is Bernard Hopkins, he was deemed boring and then they booted him, his last 3 fights weren't on HBO, one was on versus one was on integrated sports and then his last fight was on Showtime, Hopkins vs Pascal was a good fight plenty of drama and B-Hop's name was out there and had plenty of buzz again and long and behold the rematch will be on HBO

....Yes! And you can bet that the HBO crew will be extolling the greatness of one Chad Dawson as that rematch happens.

They SHOULD be talking up Tavoris Cloud which they might as well.
